Herbie’s Hangout Analysis of Colorado Scholarship Players

Prior to last week I never really gave much credence to the elevation factor at CO. I always thought it was bullshit excuse.

Turns out I’m a dumbass and never spent much time at higher elevations. I was in the Ozarks at a little over 2000 ft above sea level and I was huffing and puffing carrying heavy suitcases up a steep gravel driveway at the VRBO and I’m in fairly decent cardiovascular shape.

Boulder is 2.5 times as high as the Ozarks and I can’t even imagine.
1000 ft of elevation shouldn't cause that much difference. 4000 to 5000 ft - sure. I live at 6100 ft in Montana. Town is 1000 ft below me. I don't notice a difference. I can't remember noticing anything when I moved from NE to MT 22 yrs ago, although I admit it has been a long time so maybe my memory is foggy on it. Also, since I am used to higher elevations, it is possible a 1000 ft just doesn't effect me as much.

Interesting - I appreciate your insight.

I live in Northern VA/DC and we are not too far from sea level. So maybe 2000 ft does make a difference? More likely, I’m just a bigger fat ass than I normally am.

I lived in Vail/Colorado for over a dozen years. 8150 ft above Sea Level. For the first month or so living in Vail I would get easily winded plus drunk easier due to elevation. Once my body got use to it I was a beer drinking machine & had ridiculous stamina at lower elevations. I played Lacrosse in college and afterwards for the KC team. I went to a spring tournament with them in Minnesota after my 2nd year living in Vail. Hadn't trained all winter except for skiing and walking from bar to bar. Was able to run for days during that tournament. We had only 1 sub so stayed on the field all of the games. Now I know why Olympic Athletes train in the mountains of Colorado. It's a real thing. Boulder is only 5300 ft above sea level so still a factor but not nearly as bad as further up in the mountains.

Why did Deion take the Colorado job? Should have went somewhere in Florida
He was going to get the Arkansas job until Sam Pittman came in and said he could get Kendall Briles and Barry Odom as his coordinators.

Of course now Briles is at TCU and Odom is at UNLV. And Pittman will likely be looking for a job in about 6 months.

Retaining Pittman for whatever reason you have and avoiding Deion seems like a great play for Arkansas.

There is no way they are going to even be a competent team this year. The team is basically a juco team. Its tough to install in college football as a 1st year coach with winter conditioning, spring, summer and fall camp. They are essentially skipping winter and spring ball and maybe will have a partial summer. Its just not gonna work.

They will show up in August and they have to put the entire roster together in what 30 practices? There is no fucking way they will be able to do that. This is college football, the install of offense and defense is going to be extremely vanilla that they will get picked apart by P5 teams. I know Colorado fans keep saying it cant get worse than 1-11, but it most certainly can. I honestly think like 70-10 games week and week out are on the table. Their defense is going to be fucking destroyed.

After the last 8 years, I cant trust Nebraska, but this is going to be like a 400+ rushing yard game IMO.

I lived most of the last 20 years at 8,000 feet. Luckly I've never had any trouble with the attitude except for the few times that I go up the stairs a little too fast 🤣. I remember a few years ago we went to Maui, and we were at the top of Haleakala (10,000 feet) and we were running around with no problems while others were struggling so it definitely plays a factor.

It's a 4,000-foot altitude difference from Lincoln to Boulder so it could definitely play a factor. I've lived at 6k feet my whole life, my family has a cabin at nearly 10,000 feet and I can definitely feel the difference there. I've overworked myself and got sick, 2-3 beers and I'm solidly buzzed, sleep isn't great either. Takes about 36-48 hours to fully adjust and even then breathing is more difficult.

I digress...fuck CU. Huskers by 60.

That seems most likely.

I can for sure notice a difference going to Breckinridge but that's like 8k difference.
Breck is one of the highest ski resorts in Colorado. It's 9,600 ft above sea level. That's almost 1,500 ft higher than Vail. And one of the reasons it is one of the coldest and windiest ski resorts in that area of Colorado.

I completely agree. I actually think it could be a game that gives both the team and fans a false sense of confidence.

USF, UCF, Southern Miss, UAB... should have held out for a job like this. This way you're recruiting to bring in 4-5* guys that are all born & raised like 150 miles away or less.

Boulder, CO, & a dead FB program was a bold decision. Still think he'd have been better off waiting for a USF-type job to open up.

I just think his portal shtick works better with guys that are staying close to home in FL, GA, AL, etc. Boulder for Los Angeles or Miami kids works when you're having success like McCartney. But if they are going 2-10 it's gonna be like the Frost era for them with every southern kid getting the fuck out of dodge at the first sight of adversity.

if we dont run the grawddamn ball 60 times @God is a Husker in this one, then what are we even doing. See if their little SWAC boys on defense want to tackle 230 lbs of Gabe Ervin. my guess is no.

That’s what I’ve been telling them T
