Alabama Fans Are In Full Meltdown Mode

The most overlooked issue Bama has is that they aren't "the shit" anymore to upcoming recruits. They lived for so long on the popularity factor because they just kept winning, and ballers want to play for winners. As soon as the cream of the crop start thinking Alabama is "over" then it won't matter how much money they throw at kids; they won't get the number of them they have in the past to get back to dominating. They will be fighting tooth and nail for every win against other top programs who are on the rise popularity-wise, and can keep up with NIL.

It is still my belief the only reason Oregon is still relevant is because of their stupid uniforms and they still win at a higher clip. They still have the 'cool' factor working for them, and it's keeping them alive in recruiting. Once that schick wears off, I think they fall off the planet too.

I know there is an overall ‘Win and they will come’ mindset from a fan perspective, but Alabama is a bit unique.

Saban comes in a few years removed from the NC at LSU and they throw money at it and almost instantly get good. He’s a great coach and they stay good. The school became a coach recycling center, where Saban/Alabama benefitted from using some of the best and brightest coordinators (who’d recently lost HC jobs) in route to six NC’s, attracting pretty much any kid they wanted. His departure was a kick in the balls and DeBoer isn’t close to the same kind of coach from a reputation standpoint in the coaching community, so they’re not going to get the great coordinators as analysts after they get canned from their HC jobs. Throw in everything else in your first paragraph and they’re on their way to being just another SEC team and DeBoer is likely gone in a year or two.

They can certainly make the right hire and return to being a CFP regular, but their setup with Saban wasn’t something they’re going to ever reproduce.

Oregon’s Nike money will keep them top 15 unless they make a terrible HC hire however even if they do Phil Knight will pay the buy out and pay whatever it takes to bring in a top HC.

That may be true moving forward but to this point, their recruiting classes still point to kids thinking they are "the shit"

DeBoer has still recruited at a very high level for them
