1. We played a super clean game overall: +2 in the turnover margin. Only 3 penalties, with one being a pretty questionable personal foul penalty. Obviously the false start was unfortunate, but very few mental errors. How many times could we say that over the last 10 years?

2. Special teams is miles ahead of last year.

3. Talent at WR/TE looks very solid to good. Huge step up from last year.

4. Nwaneri looks like the real deal. He was all over the field and arguably the best player on D last night.

For reference, last night was Nwaneri’s first extensive action in a legitimate college football game of his career and he was our best player along the front. He was pretty much in the game for the remaining stretch of crunch time and was getting chipped/doubled on passing downs after successfully winning in 1-1 blocks earlier in the game. Constantly around the ball and played with good awareness.

Phenomenal game for what was his essentially first game of big boy college football. Very promising moving forward.

I think as fans and a program we constantly live in extremes and think every game sucks unless we hammer people like the nineties. In reality where we are as a program, take the win over a P4 and look to get better each week. Media and everyone else does us no favors every year acting like we are playoff material when we have not been above middle of the pack big ten in 10 years. So just keep progressing and take wins how they come 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'll second the great improvement on special teams. We'd be lucky to hit a 35 yard field goal last year let alone the 52 yarder that we drilled. Archie pinning them inside the 10 a couple of different times was huge. We'll most likely need to win a field position battle type game this year and I'm confident that we will be fine.

I was also impressed with Donovan Jones. He's definitely one of our top 3 DB's.

Feels good to be 1-0. Plenty to correct.

I saw a lot of reasons to be positive, but this game still gave me the ick.

The turnover margin looks good, but we put the ball in harms way 3 times. 2 of them easily could have been defensive TDs. We are wayyy overdue for some lucky breaks though so I’ll take it.

I didn’t like it at all that we didn’t look more physical than a Big 12 team. We did at times, but they matched or exceeded us for a large amount of the game.

In a perfect world both teams go on to look really good. I really have my doubts that they are that good though. Wouldn’t surprise me if they still fighting to get bowl eligible in late November.
