They looked at their best last year. Especially Stille. Robinson has never been very good. He has showed flashes. It’s easy to show some flashes when you’re not playing a lot of snaps. He wasn’t good last year either. Rogers was better when healthy. Now Robinson is the man, and he isn’t that good. If he would have picked Bama over us, he would have definitely been processed by now. I’m fine with War Daddy being shown the door, but we have blamed the strength coach since Solich. We need to find the right coach who can recruit some dudes.
Our Jimmy's and Joe's need to get much better. The biggest issue is these guys haven't had any time to develop. They are thrown to the wolves because Frost and his groomsmen mismanaged the roster so bad we are relying on kids who shouldn't see the field until their 4th year in the program. Robinson was a highly ranked recruit, but even those guys need time to develop. Case in point....Suh. He was ass his first 2 years.

I don't buy the playing too early damages them with the exception of qb. Getting taught poor technique can create bad habits but that's done more in practice.

I agree you want mostly juniors and seniors playing on your lines especially in the BIg

It’s okay to sprinkle a talented player or two in your lines early on, but you don’t want to make a living of playing underclassmen in the BIG especially on the lines.

Well that's definitely true. I just mean I don't think playing kids early has an effect on what type of player they can be.

Perfect world you have 5th year seniors across the board.

I don't think it's always detrimental, but I think putting guys out there to get worked for 12 games has to fuck them up

You're entitled to your opinion. There's no way to prove or disprove either theory without access to an alternate timeline.

I think if you're a P5 lineman you either have it mentally or you don't. Making mistakes will either make you learn from your mistakes and limitations and work really hard to improve.

Or you're a pussy and let the mistakes rule you.

My opinion is the mentality of the latter is not cut out for being a P5 football player no matter when they start playing.

Kaz talked about it a couple weeks ago on Hail Varsity. He was a huge proponent of not playing linemen until year 3 unless they were freaks. He talked about the development and mental aspect of playing on the lines in the BIG. If you’re playing a lot of young guys it goes back to recruiting and development unless a new coach just took over. I guess it did work for PJ Fleck with letting freshman get their asses kicked early on.

That's reasonable.

Again I'm not in any way trying to argue that it's healthy for a team to have multiple underclassmen olineman starting. That's more than likely a recipe for a bad oline.

I think it just ends up being a bullshit excuse of why a highly ranked lineman sucks. When in reality if he didn't start until his senior year he still would have sucked. He just didn't have it.

Also one, two, or more of these lineman still have a chance of developing into a good player by the time they're covid seniors. Maybe they're out of position or really hone their technique to get better.

If Corcoran wouldn't have played until 2024 we would have no idea his technique sucks right now. It's possible he could have good technique in 2024.

It’s also easier for that highly ranked lineman to succeed if he is playing early on a good team. If you’re surrounded by garbage players it’s harder to get better. Either way it will be interesting next year to see if the next staff can get something out of these guys, or if it’s a total rebuild?

We could definitely still be in the sucking phase of things with how young most of the line still is

Where is this NFL talent you speak of, outside of Palmer and Grant. Please don’t say Nelson and Robinson.

Off the top of my head,
  1. Grant
  2. Palmer
  3. Allen (better pro prospect than Grant)
  4. Vokolek
  5. Nouili
  6. Teddy
  7. Newsome
  8. Mathis
  9. Buschini
You could convince me to put Gifford. He needs to develop some more.

You could list Fidone bc if he gets healthy he will be an NFL TE.

Hartzog has my attention, but I worry about his size at the next level. Regardless he will be a solid CB at the college level.

I don't see Ty right now. He is too inconsistent and I think needs to lean up. He needs to be a more athletic 3/4i. Then I could see it, but he isn't right now iyam.

I don't know if Nelson has the flexibility/explosiveness to be an NFL edge. Pretty good B1G edge guy, but I don't know about NFL. On the flip side he is 8th for TFLs in the conference and 4th for sacks right now, but played the weak part of the schedule.

I think there is also a guy like Bonner who I wouldn't be shocked if he played the last 4. I know they are very very excited about him.

The problem is a lot of those guys are either unavailable, hurt and playing or out for the year.

I would be stunned if any current OLineman even sniff the NFL. Allen and Bonner will probably end up in the portal.
