21 years ago today, the Return of the King

Saw these as a kid and remember nothing about them. Maybe I should watch them again.

Never read the books.

Funny story, those movies were hot when I was in Elementary School. For some god knows why reason, my school had those books being sold at my book fair when I was in 3rd grade I think it was. I bought the Two Towers book. I got in trouble one day in after school Kids Club, 15 minutes of time out. They gave me the options to sit there and wait, or to read, and I chose to read. I whipped that bad boy out, and spent 15 minutes on the same page not knowing what in the hell I was reading. I did watch all of those movies as a kid as well, and had no clue what the book was talking about.

Tolkien’s writing style was more academic than anything. He was a linguist and started with the words of a language and built the background behind those words from there.

Still, very much worth a read. Start with The Hobbit and go from there.

Only sickos read The Silmarillion.

Return of the King was great until the last 30 minutes where Sam and Frodo can’t figure out if they’re going to fuck or not
