The first couple of days I was really encouraged. It seemed like we had executed really well on qb - took care of that first, had him enter with a no contact tag, committed within a couple of days.

Then that completely fell apart. And then it became clear that qb was largely the extent of our “successful” tampering and we were just kind of in the mix with other similarly situated programs.

It hasn’t been a disaster, but it’s also kind of hard to believe that this kind of a haul is worthy of an 800k GM.
Went kind of the same way with the coaches Geep, Lonnie, Aurich, Manning......Brown?

One thing we must admit is that they do usually have a back up plan as far as portal players are concerned. I'm sure they'll have another DL target for tomorrow or Saturday.

The thing is, since it's so late in the cycle, it's a mad scramble. So cancellations and ruined plans should be expected. That anticipation should lead you to plan a contingency.

Also, I'm gonna be as critical of Pat Stewart as anyone but the reality is that there really is no way to practice this. No real way to be prepared for this level of chaos and nonsense.
The way to handle it was to start tampering in September when it was clear we couldn't stop the run, then drop off bag on guys as soon as the portal opened

As for Pat Stewart it's still Rhule's show when it comes down to it. I understand about the chaos but that's what he gets paid for. This essentially was his Super Bowl.

There were DL available for instance maybe not as many plan As but plenty of plan Bs and even plan Cs. Schools with less resources were able to find and fill DL spots. So I'm not sure what the issue is.

Geep and Lonnie were able to fill their spots with quality additions so again this year maybe the lack of a DL coach came back to haunt them.

You can argue RB both ways I guess but it never felt like it was priority again this year.

I'm hoping Rule looked good in bowl prep and that's the reason they didn't go after a portal rb because otherwise it has me worried.

Stoudmire shit is a red flag. He apparently collapsed in fall camp and went by ambulance to a hospital. Came back. Got injured again Played another game and then had a season ending one

Bizarre year. Hopefully, they get a shot at someone else.
Where did you learn all this?

It’s underwhelming, not terrible, but compared to the rhetoric coming out of North Stadium about funds and the well known standards for what a top portal class looks like… It’s pretty meh.

I’m trying not to be too negative and dismissive of this portal class, portal rankings outside the top 5-10 players at each position are iffy at best and there’s still the very real possibility this class ends up being better than some of us think. QB and offensive line look pretty decent so there’s reason to be excited/optimistic right there.

But comparing what I thought or hoped this class might look like to what it actually looks like, doesn’t give me warm and fuzzy vibes. It’d be dishonest of me if I just pretended I was in love with everything happening. 😐

Identifying WHO you should go after and then actually landing that player are two totally different things. And those two totally different responsibilities are executed by different people. We won’t know the answers to many of our questions until the season starts. But right now it appears we are identifying quality players, but rarely able to land our top options at that position.

Stewart is getting the opportunity to earn his check. I think the very top players are easier to identify and it’s more of a money question and belief in a coach/program. Can you pay me top dollar money at my position and do I believe in you to get me to the playoffs/League.

But the portal is huge and you can still land an amazing class that isn’t highly rated on paper. If you have a good GM and some $. By all accounts we have some money, but do we have good talent evaluation and identification? We’ll see…
