Nwaneri was a good get, but ain't no way any rational person would believe he was gonna fill the holes left by Nash & Ty.
Who was? It was pretty obvious to me that we didn't have the money to get anybody worth a shit inside. Frost left jack shit for upperclassmen there.

A guy with 2 tds on the season and pretty meh production? This will def solve our RB need
from Gopher Nation

In today’s college football, no player returning to their program is a given. The Gophers have learned that with Ijeboi.

The Pennsylvania native likely would’ve been in position for quality snaps for the Gophers in 2026 but also showed the promise this season of being a feature back or a No. 2 back in a strong backfield. The potential opportunity to have a more featured role appears to be more tempting, however, plus Ijeboi as we mentioned last month was going to be a running back who was going to garner series NIL offers from other programs. We’re told that is the case here, with multiple programs showing heavy interest in the now Minnesota transfer.

Ijeboi this season for the Gophers’ behind a poor run blocking offensive line totaled 97 carries for 441 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also had 13 receptions for 54 yards.

With A.J. Turner coming off a knee injury and just traditionally being more of a change of pace back to begin with, Ijeboi would’ve been in line to be the Gophers’ starting tailback in 2026.

1) we weren't "fine" at RB, we were insanely lucky that EJ didn't get hurt even though he had a gazillion touches.

2) DL portal action was pretty low effort and they prioritized big money on WRs
EJ had a normal amount of touches for being an All-American. Every year, the top 5-10 RB's get around 23-25 touches a game. And we used him out in space quite a bit, so his touches weren't that heavy. Boise was lucky Jeanty didn't get hurt last year, or Illinois with Brown in 22. But I don't think we got that "insanely lucky" that EJ didn't get hurt. We used an All-American RB a very reasonable amount.

Yeah I saw that too. Why people don’t click on it before posting is beyond me. It clearly states parody account

Follow me on this possible theory if you will....

A: We don't want to LOSE a bunch of RBs to the portal. We simply can't afford it.

B: At the same time we know we need to add at least one.

C: We also know that aggressively recruiting one will possibly push a few we have towards the portal.

D: So we wait for the the back half or closer to the end of the portal closing to make our move at RB so as to make guys on the roster already hesitate on jumping in so late.

Make sense or are our coaches not capable of this level of treachery?

You could almost apply this to our WR room as well.

Admittedly, I didn't really watch him this year and realize he was a true freshman so maybe the potential is there but just looking at his individual game stats, he doesn't really excite me. Still think we need a true #1 back, personally.

If you extrapolated his stats based on a typical RB1 work load he would be pretty serviceable. Minnesota was generally doo doo this year too

I agree. Not saying he's terrible by any means but I'm of the opinion we need more than "serviceable" at the position. I think what we have rn is "serviceable"
