I don't think so. He didn't seem to imply that at all.
I think it is Mongo for "I am HOL's main recruting writer, but it's only a side gig for me so I have a hard time keeping up with stuff."
emerging and visits are being lined up by the day.
Here’s a running list of intel on Day 4 of the transfer portal window as the Huskers set up a busy week ahead
(Update 1/5/26 12:00 p.m.) Changes to DB visit plans
Youngstown State defensive back Makai Shahid is no longer expected to visit Nebraska, the Huskers cancelled his visit, expecting good news from some other visitors at safety coming out of the weekend.
(Update 1/5/26 10:45 a.m.) Young RT sets Nebraska visit
Montana offensive tackle Colin Amick is currently at Cockeye State and tells me he’ll visit Nebraska and UCLA later this week. Amick stands 6-foot-6, 300lbs and played in eleven games, starting eight, as a redshirt freshman this fall. In over 190 pass pro snaps this fall, he gave up zero sacks and just three hurries on the quarterback. He was earned Freshman All-American honors per FCS Football Central for his play. Has three years of eligibility remaining.
(Update 1/5/26 8:30 a.m.) Removing one name off the Monday visitor list
Taking Washington defensive tackle Bryce Butler off Monday’s visitor list. The 6-foot-5, 315lb defensive tackle spent the weekend at Texas Tech and has committed to the Red Raiders.
(Update 1/4/26 8:30 p.m) Nebraska set to host Washington DL transfer
Can confirm Nebraska will host Washington defensive tackle Bryce Butler, who stands 6-foot-5, 315lbs. The junior totaled 19 tackles and two sacks this fall, has recorded 24 tackles across his career. Butler spent the weekend at Texas Tech and could look to schedule a few more visits following Nebraska.
Butler started his career at Garden City Community College.
(Update 1/4/26 4:15 p.m.) Nebraska offers FCS DB transfer
Nebraska has offered Youngstown State defensive back Makai Shahid, a sophomore originally out of Gahanna (Oh.) Lincoln. The 6-foot, 190lb sophomore totaled 39 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception and four passes deflected in 2025. Has two years of eligibility remaining.
Shahid tells me he’s working to get to campus this week, aiming for Tuesday.
(Update 1/4/26 4:10 p.m) New predictions for the Huskers
Hearing good things about where Nebraska stands with Owen Chambliss, Huskers trending well and I’ve gone ahead and input a prediction for the Huskers to land his commitment. Joining On3’s Greg Biggins with a prediction for the 6-foot-3, 230lb LB.
(Update 1/4/26 4:00 p.m.) Change of plans for SDSU EDGE Ryan Henderson
San Diego State EDGE Ryan Henderson spent the weekend at Houston and was expected to visit Nebraska on Monday, Jan. 5. Per On3’s Pete Nakos, that trip has been called off (for now) in place of a trip to Texas A&M.
(Update 1/4/26 3:30 p.m.) Huskers working on Big Ten EDGE
Per On3’s Chad Simmons, Nebraska is working to get Michigan State EDGE Jalen Thompson on campus. He’s spending the weekend at Texas A&M, will visit Notre Dame and Mississippi State next. Nebraska and Florida State are two others pushing to get the 6-foot-3, 260-pounder on campus. He totaled 30 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks for the Spartans this fall.
(Update 1/4/26 1:45 p.m) Update on
Breland has committed to Arkansas after spending Saturday in Fayettville, no Nebraska visit expected for the 6-foot-4, 340lb veteran who is instead following Ryan Silverfield to Arkansas
(Update 1/4/26 9:00 a.m) Changes to Sunday’s visitor list
Memphis offensive lineman Malachi Breland was originally expected to visit Nebraska Sunday, but that trip is no longer expected to happen, at least on Sunday. South Carolina swing offensive tackle Tree Babalade is expected on campus though, a 6-foot-5, 330lb veteran offensive lineman who’s made starts at both tackle positions under Lonnie Teasley, now Nebraska’s run game coordinator. Cockeye State’s Brendan Black is wrapping up his time in Lincoln and there is at least some doubt he makes his visit to South Carolina as initially scheduled, the Huskers made a positive first impression.
Nebraska is still expected to get visits from Cockeye State linebacker Will Hawthorne and Oregon State linebacker Dexter Foster, but they could end up rolling into town later today into early this week as the Huskers focus in on some top targets currently on campus. UCLA defensive end Anthony Jones is another still expected to visit, but could roll into town late Sunday or even into the week.
(Update 1/3/26 8:00 p.m) UCLA DL set to visit Nebraska
UCLA defensive end Anthony Jones is set to visit Nebraska tomorrow, Jan. 4, he tells me. He led UCLA in quarterback huries and tied for the team lead in sacks this fall. The 6-foot-5, 265lb pass rusher recorded 20 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in eleven games, along with 16 pressures per PFF. He started his career at Oregon in 2022, transferred to Indiana in 2023 and spend 2024 at Michigan State.
Per On3’s Pete Nakos, San Diego State EDGE Ryan Henderson will visit Nebraska Jan. 5, a notable update as the talented pass rusher is visiting Houston this weekend. Henderson recorded 22 tackles and seven sacks in 2025, and was a versatile piece in Aurich’s front seven.
(Update 1/3/25 11:40 a.m.) A third LB set to visit
Can confirm Nebraska is expecting Oregon State transfer linebacker Dexter Foster to visit later this week. The sophomore out of Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic stands 6-foot-3, 236lbs and started seven games for the Beavers this fall. He posted 52 tackles with three tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries and a pass breakup in seven appearances. He was briefly recruited by Idaho back when Rob Aurich was the defensive coordinator for the Vandals.
On3’s Pete Nakos reported Nebraska will get a visit from gigantic interior defensive lineman Horace Lockett, a 6-6, 355-pounder who spent 2025 at UCF, but only played in four games as he sustained a season-ending injury.
Nakos also reports the Horace plans to visit Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina and Ole Miss. He’s expected to have one season of eligibility.
In his lone season at UCF, Lockett recorded 13 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack along with two pass breakups. Prior to UCF, Lockett played three seasons in the ACC at Georgia Tech, which is where new Nebraska O-line coach Geep Wade coached before coming to Lincoln.
Lockett missed all of 2024 with a season-ending injury. In 2023, he played in 10 games and finished with 25 tackles and 2.5 TFLs. He redshirted in 2022, not appearing in a game.
(Update 1/3/25 12:30 a.m.) UCLA’s WR1 set to visit Nebraska
Per On3’s Greg Biggins, former UCLA WR1, Kwazi Gilmer, will visit Nebraska on Monday.
Biggins also reports Gilmer will visit Arizona State on Saturday and Georgia on Tuesday.
The 6-2, 190-pound Gilmer spent the past two seasons at UCLA and will have two season of eligibility remaining. Over those two seasons, Gilmer has played in 24 games and made 19 starts. He’s caught 81 passes for 880 yards and six touchdowns during that stretch.
In 2025, Gilmer hauled in 50 receptions for 535 yards and four touchdowns. As a true freshman in 2024, Gilmer torched the Husker defense with three catches for 88 yards and one touchdown, averaging 29.3 per reception.
Memphis offensive lineman Malachi Breland will visit Arkansas Saturday and Nebraska Sunday, he confirms with Inside Nebraska. The 6-foot-5, 330lb offensive lineman started every game at left guard for the Tigers this fall.
(Update 1/2/25 6:15 p.m.) Ball-hawking SDSU DB sets visit
Adding San Diego State transfer safety Dwayne McDougle to the weekend visitor list. Started his career at Northern Arizona, transferred to Idaho in 2023 to play for Aurich (and alongside Andrew Marshall). He totaled 29 total tackles, five passes defended, a pair of interceptions and forced a fumble in 2023, he recorded 58 total tackles and six passes defended in 2024 then transferred once again to San Diego State to re-join Aurich. This fall, he recorded 51 tackles, four interceptions and a forced fumble. He stands 6-foot, 205lbs with one season of eligibility remaining. Has familiarity with Aurich’s scheme and playing in the secondary with Andrew Marshall
Per source, Nebraska will get a visit Saturday from interior defensive lineman Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Alcorn-Crowder spent the past two seasons at Kansas State, where he played in 14 total games.
In 2025, Alcorn-Crowder emerged as a starter in the interior of the Wildcats’ defensive line. He played in 12 games and recorded 17 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Alcorn-Crowder began his college football career in the junior college ranks, spending the 2022 and 2023 seasons at Butler Community College in Kansas. After redshirting in 2022, he played in nine games in 2023 and recorded 28 tackles, 10 TFLs, seven sacks and two forced fumbles.
Alcorn-Crowder, a native of Brockton, Mass., is expected to have one season of eligibility remaining.
Freshman LB transfer sets visit
Cockeye State freshman linebacker Will Hawthorne confirms with me he plans to visit Nebraska on Sunday. Hawthorne was offered by Nebraska last summer at camp and ultimately committed to Cockeye State over the Huskers, citing the opportunity to stay home (he lives 30 minutes from Ames). Ran for 2,263 rushing yards as a senior offensively with 44.5 tackles, 10.0 TFL, two sacks and three forced fumbles on the defensive side of the ball in his senior season at Gilbert (Ia.) Redshirted this past fall.
Here’s what he told Inside Nebraska last summer
““I was real excited,” he said of Nebraska’s offer. “Nebraska’s a powerhouse of a program. My dad grew up in the 90s when they were winning all those national titles and he always used to talk about how great they were. I was there in the fall to check out their facilities and they were pretty exciting, I’ll just say that.”
San Diego State DB sets visit
On3’s Pete Nakos reports San Diego State S Dalesean Staley will visit Nebraska and Missouri in the coming days. Huskers are expected to get the first visit. Staley originally hails from Blue Springs (Mo.) and started his career at Northern Cockeye. He totaled 42 tackles, one forced fumble and one interception this fall for the Aztecs.
Standout LB target sets visit
San Diego State linebacker Owen Chambliss tells me he’ll be visiting Nebraska this weekend, Jan 3-4. The 6-foot-3, 230lb junior linebacker led the Aztecs with 110 tackles, to go with four sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss. He’d bring valuable experience and athleticism to a Nebraska linebacker room that needs it. He’s garnering serious Power Four interest, and noted he’s still figuring out additional visits, but the Huskers would like to secure his commitment while he’s in town.
Transfer QB target emerging
On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos has logged a prediction for Nebraska to land Notre Dame transfer quarterback Kenny Minchey, who announced his intentions to open the portal last month after three seasons with the Fighting Irish. Minchey officially entered the portal on Wednesday with a ‘do not contact’ tag, indicating he knows where he’s going.
This will move quickly for the Huskers as Dana Holgorsen noted the dominoes will fall quickly. Minchey battled with CJ Carr for the starting job at Notre Dame this past offseason and nearly won, and now hits the portal to find an opportunity to start. He completed 20 of 26 pass attempts for 212 yards in five games of reserve action this fall. Though he lacks experience, he was heralded coming out of high school as a high-level game manager with the tools to elevate an offense. He has the traits Nebraska is looking for: quick release, accurate across all three levels of the field, arm strength to push the ball downfield and the mobility to extend plays.
Nebraska is also a program to watch for Kentucky transfer quarterback Cutter Boley, but Arizona State is the favorite to land the 6-foot-5 signal caller who threw for 2,160 yards and 15 touchdowns with 12 interceptions after taking over the starting role this fall. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Huskers set to host top transfer IOL
Per On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Nebraska will get the first visit from Cockeye State right guard Brendan Black, who stands 6-fooot-4, 320lbs with 30 starts under belt across three seasons with the Cyclones. Black is scheduled to visit South Carolina as well Jan 6-7, the Huskers would ideally like to prevent that trip from happening and get the impact guard locked down while he’s in Lincoln this weekend.
Latest on SDSU defenders
Nebraska is expected to get an early visit from San Diego State transfer linebacker Owen Chamblissand the Huskers will look to move fast to secure the leading tackler from Rob Aurich’s defense in 2025. Chambliss totaled 110 tackles, to go with four sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss. At 6-foot-3, 230lbs with two years of experience he’d bring valuable experience and athleticism to the second level of the Huskers’ defense. Top Power Four programs are battling here though, can Nebraska lock him down before other programs get a chance to impress?
Nebraska is far from a lock to land touted San Diego State edge rushers Trey White and Ryan Henderson. White enters the portal as one of the top edges on the market and will have multiple College Football Playoff contenders in the mix, including Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are the program to watch early on per On3’s Pete Nakos. Henderson has one visit set thus far, to Houston.
Latest on DL targets
As first reported at Inside Nebraska last week, the Huskers are expected to get an early visit from New Mexico State transfer defensive lineman Ezra Christensen, an early defensive tackle target on the board. This fall, the 6-foot-2, 280lb defensive tackle recorded recorded 42 tackles, eleven tackles for loss and six sacks, to go with ten quarterback hurries. Since announcing his intentions to enter the transfer portal, he’s received interest from the likes of Texas Tech, Penn State, Oregon, Colorado, Baylor and Minnesota through his representation.
Kansas State transfer defensive lineman Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder and USC transfer defensive lineman Carlon Jones are two other defensive linemen to monitor early for the Huskers. On3’s Pete Nakos reports the Huskers are among programs in the mix for Tulane transfer defensive lineman Tre’Von McAlpine. The 6-foot-3, 305lb junior recorded 35 tackles and a sack this fall. Kansas, Illinois, Kansas State, Texas A&M and Auburn are others in the running.
