Here's my biggest hot take of the portal...I don't think we necessarily need to take a RB out of the portal. I think if we do, we do not need to take a guy who is expected to start.
this is a reasonable hot take

They have also now seen Jamal Rule at Bowl practice.

Oh boi, Pat Stewart... hope you're not big-braining this shit.
My issue with an NFL background guy being in charge of roster management is that much of the evaluation is based on positional value. Meaning they are only willing to pay a certain range for prospects. College is not bound by any type of fiduciary responsibility because this isn't a business for profit. Colleges who will do well will overpay for every player they want. These kids who have multiple visits lined up but end up canceling are provided offers and asked for commitments prior to leaving. It's important to get these kids here first and make aggressive offers. If NU has the money it is suspected we have and spoken about then Nebraska HAS to overpay the first year to get success. This is what TT did and now they are a top portal destination. You do not have any leverage for cost if you are bad; you do if you've had success. Those are the facts!

we can only see about 5%, so that is not surprising
I’d say we “see” way more than 5%.
Recurring portal is more business meetings and recruiting hs kids.

We don’t see the negotiations and what teams spend but agents and players are pretty open books about where they plan to visit because it drives up negotiations.

And, ironically, this is where I'd like to see us step up and go get a top guy. I think Nelson and Mozee and be good RBs for us. But if you are able to strike and pull another all-conference level RB, RB recruiting should become so much easier. It becomes "Nebraska has great running backs," and not "a great running back played at Nebraska." If that makes any sense...

It's not the most critical piece that needs to be addressed - trenches definitely need to be the top priorities. But pulling an elite RB should be a priority as well.

Well say goodbye to 26 and thus 27 with a new ball coach.

I am telling this to myself.... do not convince yourself things will be better. We are not going to be good next year. I like Rhule but it looks like he's failing. I am no longer a member of HES nor am I a Sandy Vag.

I am simply a realist that sees Nebraska football for what it is. A fallen program that doesn't know how to get back on it's feet.

From here on out I will apathetically look on and someday we may have a big win against a team we shouldn't beat and that will be a fun day.

Thank you, Fred for giving us a phenomenal basketball team to root for.

We had that this season and it was not a factor in wins-losses. Where you see when we had a QB with P4 talent we had success, when we didn't, we were awful.

I’m disappointed in what appears to me as Nebraska either A) refusing to play the game or B) not able to play the game properly when it comes to player acquisition over the past few years, not just this current.

Nebraska calls itself a blue blood, says they have the best fan base in America and acquires talent at a Kansas St level.

The excuse of “well they have more money” or “well they are the hot team right now” shouldn’t be acceptable. Does Nebraska want to compete or not? You can not compete with this type of talent acquisiton.
Bingo. And keep in mind through all of this - we took a small HS class planning to solve a lot of problems through the portal. THAT is why people are losing it so fast on this.

We have 0 base of HS players this off-season and when impact players at positions of need are announcing left and right we aren't being mentioned, in fact we are being bumped for other visits. There is still plenty of time to make some impact acquisitions, but the optics are bad out of the gate. And we keep having those bad optics.

This doesn't mean the portal is a loss for us yet, though. I still believe very much that Rhule always has a plan. Just expectantly waiting to see that plan flawlessly enacted.
