Nope, he has not. This thread has gotten off the rails

I think all that was said in this thread was that the PT and monetary commitments we'd have to make to sign Brown would, in effect, mean we misled EJ last winter and he would likely leave. That might be okay except for the fact we actually believe EJ is better than Brown.

I think Nebraska likes their RB room. I think there is nothing more to this than that.
This, and the fact that Rhule is very concious of fact that anyone he adds to the roster means one more guy he has to cut from the current team, which we know he is already not excited about doing.

Get ready for the Air Raid, boys

Not saying I want to go Air Raid, and not saying Nebraska should just rest on their laurels in the running back room. However, I absolutely think Emmet Johnson is someone who can catch 25+ passes out of the backfield this season.

Why are we acting like EJ is anything more than being an ok back? I’d offer Brown the same deal EJ’s on & tell them they’re splitting carries and I’d be surprised if Brown doesn’t end up being better. Unless Rhule is downplaying the freshman to keep one or both of them as a surprise & they’re actually really good, it seems like a terrible idea to go into the season with this RB room. We only have 1 dude who has played enough for fans to even have an opinion on and he’s been mediocre at best..

Lot of people making wild assumptions about Emmet Johnson on here with zero evidence.

I think there is plenty of evidence that Emmett Johnson could be a dynamic 3rd down back with exceptional ball skills and "make people miss" talent after the catch.

Is he an every down back? No way. I think of him in the sense that a year from now he can be a dude with 500 rushing yards and 3 TDs, and 400 receiving yards and 4 TDs. he's a complimentary piece. But do they need a better true running back?

Absolutely.

My opinion is that EJ is a better fit for what Holgorsen appears to want to do. Brown played 402 snaps. He had 243 rushing attempts, ran a pass route on 94 snaps, caught 6 passes, blocked on the remainder.

EJ played 385 snaps on offense. He carried the ball 117 times, went out on passing routes 215 times, caught 39 passes, blocked on the remaining snaps.

It's hard to see Holgo using a RB who isn't as big of a receiving threat as running threat.

Are we going to act like having 2 backs with completely different skill sets is a bad thing? Also why does it have to be one or the other? The only thing I know is going into the season with the current RB depth chart is a terrible idea barring one of the freshman being surprisingly elite & even then it would be pretty stupid.

He also runs the 40 in the high 4.5s and in the four FCS playoff games had 216 yards rushing total on 55 carries - less than four yards per carry - on the best team in FCS. I don't see this translating well to the B1G, tbh.

He’s good enough for Miami to offer him playing time right after Ajay Allen who Nebraska fans thought was going to be a star left because he didn’t play..
