In fairness, a LOT of national Twitter/X accounts posted or reposted this rumor. National 247 guy ran with it. National Cover3 podcast led their show with it.

Our fanbase is psychotic but in this case, this was led by the national guys.
When? The last few days when the transfer portal was about to open and they were looking for low hanging fruit on a team that was thought to have underperformed and he was a former 5 star recruit?

I read one of those. A very easy question to ask to that for me was: why’d he come here in the first place then? Makes no sense.

The other theory is that Dylan WAS getting offers from Miami/Texas A&M etc...and Dom brought those to 1890 to shake them down/extract another couple $100k's out of them. In that case it would have been leaked to the 247 guy et al by either Raiola camp or someone at Miami etc.

That theory actually makes a little more sense than the 247/Cover3 guys just taking a random tweet by a guy with 700 followers and running with it.

You could say 'they're engagement farming' all you want but seasoned CFB media folks know better than to run with an unsubstantiated tweet from some rando with 700 followers. If they did that, they'd literally have 10,000 fake stories every day.

I have to say, I heard rumors from within our own fanbase before I saw anything from national media. I don't think this was created by the national media.

Okay, trying to get this thread back on track. Here is a rundown of who is currently in the portal.

PLAYERS TRANSFERRING OUT (19):
3* DL - Jimari Butler (16 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 37 games) would have been nice to keep him, but he’s likely at his ceiling in development. No reason to think you can’t find a similar player in the portal.
3* LB - Mikai Gbayor (15 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 25 games) this one hurts some IMO, but not really an all-conference level player. Can find a replacement level player in the portal.
4* WR - Malachi Coleman (6 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 12 games) given what we know about him, not a huge loss.
3* RB - Gabe Ervin, Jr. (4 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 23 games) #processed
4* LB - Princewill Umanmielen (1 career game start at Nebraska, played in 23 games) this one hurts, current #1 rated transfer. Although he did take a slight step back in production last year.
3* LB - Stefon Thompson (1 career game start at Nebraska, played in 11 games) #processed
0* DL - James Williams (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 16 games) would have been really nice to keep him given the potential. Jury is still out on whether he can develop into an every down player.
3* DL - Kai Wallin (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 15 games) not a big loss IMO.
4* DL - Keona Davis (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 11 games) definitely a loss given the other departures at the position.
3* DL - Vincent Jackson (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 11 games) sounds like a mutual parting of the ways?
3* DB - Dwight Bootle II (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 6 games) doesn’t feel like that big of a loss
0* LB - Noah Bustard (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 1 game) walk on
0* DB - Mason Jones (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 1 game) walk on
3* DL - Brodie Tagaloa (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 1 game) #processed
0* RB - Ryker Evans (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 0 games) #processed
4* WR - Dae'Vonn Hall (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 0 games) likely bringing in 2-3 stud WRs with established production, so not a loss at all
3* QB - Daniel Kaelin (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 0 games) hurts in terms, but nature of the beast
3* DB - Syncere Safeeullah (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 0 games) #processed
0* LB - Gage Wager (0 career game starts at Nebraska, played in 0 games) walk on

Other than the fact that we got hit pretty hard on the front 7, realistically only 2-3 of the guys currently in the portal are ones that you would consider major losses.

Rumors, or just doom tweeting?

Surely there was some 'we were only 6-6, WRs surrounding him weren't great, I really hope Dylan doesn't give up faith and leave us.' But that's not a rumor and you certainly would see doom tweets like that among all 6-6 or 5-7 programs.

That's not enough for an established national 247 writer to report on something or an established national podcast like Cover3 to lead their show with it.

Doesn't it seem to make sense for Gabe Ervin to possibly end up at UCF?

Frost loved the guy. The problem with Gabe was that his body didn't love football.
As long as he's cool with taking a pay cut.

That's the funny thing. Every Gabe Ervin who leaves here will take a massive pay cut anywhere else. So we'll see how motivated they are to play.

Though TBF Ervin may have just been #processed

I have no doubt that teams reached out to Dylan. I think that's factual. I don't think he ever considered leaving

Oh that? Absolutely they did.

Take every elite player (or elite potential) on every team in America and 100% certainty that they were "approached by other teams."

That's kind of dumb though. But yes, certainly Dylan's people were approached. Every 5* on every team in the country was probably approached by at least one program.
  • "You sure you got the ball enough?"
  • "Heard your position coach is leaving to an NFL team in January"
  • "Don't you want to play for a playoff team?"
  • "Are you happy with the playcalling this past year?"
To say a 5* was approached....you might as well say 'water is wet.'
