Who actually gives a shit about these lists before the season? They are pretty much just a way to tell the projected starters on each team with no real value behind them.
These lists anger me. They are completely meaningless. Like you said, they are basically a list of all returning starters at a certain position. And if someone does come out of nowhere, they are added to the list midseason. These players aren't being "watched" any more or less than anyone else. They are simply a way for these awards and the groups that sponsor them to get into the headlines once or twice during the season, and the media indulges them every time. I actively avoid any stories or information on these worthless watchlists.
