Taylor/Ellis transferring to Millard South

If I was Nebraska, I wouldn't want to spend any time on anyone who wasn't interested enough in their home state school to travel the short distance necessary to attend a camp at the school. Off-campus recruiting days are pretty limited now; they need that time because they have a lot of geography to cover. The widows are in January, April 15-Memorial Day, and Sept-Nov and only allow a total 173 person days. that's less than 20 each for the designated off-campus recruiting coaches.

I disagree with this completely. It would take Nebraska and their coaches very little effort to send people out to the local high schools in Lincoln and Omaha. Touch your bases so you're not losing out on kids to rival schools in the B1G because you can't even make a small effort to see them. Also shows they're full of shit when they talk about valuing Nebraska high school football in the state, when they can't even make it to the local high schools in Lincoln and the Omaha metro, when there's a bevy of FCS, G5, P4 schools making appearances.

I’m not one to give this staff much credit but they have gotten most of the in state kid that they actually wanted.

I think Nebraska has proven more than enough over the past decade they’ll take chances in instate kids.
Instate kids have busted at an extremely high rate (if they come to Nebraska or go elsewhere).
At a certain point you have to ask if instate kids are worth the risk. They have proven fairly consistently no matter what p5 school the go to that they aren’t very good. Outside of maybe 6-7 total kids the past 10 years. And Nebraska can’t take every instate kids in hopes of getting the 10% who don’t suck

Again. I’m not saying you’re taking a bunch of kids. It’s that there are a slew of schools in to stop in at high schools checking in on kids…who isn’t. Nebraska. It doesn’t take much effort to send a someone to the schools in Omaha and Lincoln…so when they do have someone…that’s my gripe.

Any idea why it's seemingly been that way for like 20 years throughout every coaching staff? I don't pay attention to recruiting at all, just seems like there is constantly this exact gripe with every staff.

It wouldn’t take much to check in is all I know. Shit. Send a staffer. A GA. An intern. Send someone. So the minute you have someone that could play at that level. It’s not the first time they’ve heard from you.

If we never take another Nebraska hs football player again, I'd be cool with it. Horrible hs football in the state and the “good ones” never pan out at Nebraska

The ups and downs of in-state recruiting over the years has been an interesting watch and not all on the NU side either.

Even with Rhule, he was all in on the in-state guys the first couple of years to taking just one for 26. I realize there were circumstances but the top in-state guys for 26 went to Alabama and Cockeye, four of the former Cockeye St recruits ended up at Penn St, a couple of more in-states to Illinois, K-State and Fresno ST, one to Northwestern, another to Missouri, and some more to the lower schools.

Also the strange relationship with one of the top Juco schools down the street too.

2026 Nebraska In-State recruits.

I'll outline the difference.

Minnesota's junior day invites went out this week. They sent someone to each invites school, met with the athlete and coach, and physically handed them an invite.

Nebraska called and if the athlete wanted to attend they must register online.
