I agree with the staff. Paying an rb a lot of money is stupid.

There’s a reason why RBs bust much in the nfl and they aren’t a priority for budgets.

a lot of rb production is scheme based

They obviously have confidence in their OL and Geep. And I don’t mind subscribing to the theory that a good OL can make an average rb look good and a good rb look great. We just have an incomplete grade for our RB room. There’s no production to say where the guys are at. The coaches who’ve seen them everyday are confident in their ability. Or they’re just cheap. We’ll find out.

TimV on transfers. Interesting story on AC.

*** Nebraska is done at edge after adding UCLA transfer Anthony Jones to edge rusher room. Jones is on his fifth program in five years, with relatively limited production, but he flashed in 2025 with the Bruins and shows good bend on tape. There’s a belief new edge rushers coach Roy Manning can bring out the best from the redshirt senior in a consistent role.

*** Nebraska’s lack of action in the running back market caught many agents by surprise. It wasn’t that the Huskers didn’t test the market whatsoever, they certainly did, the shortlist of names to watch didn’t come out of nowhere. However, once the portal window opened, Nebraska didn’t seem willing to spend what running backs they were linked to early on were asking for. The Huskers have stated confidence in their room, particularly Mekhi Nelson, Kwinten Ives and Isaiah Mozee, so far their actions suggest that confidence is real. I am curious if the post-national championship portal window for Indiana and Miami changes Nebraska’s tune, or if they get creative and find a way to add a cost-effective body to the room, like they did two summers ago with Nelson.

*** Now that the dust has settled, I caught up with some sources on Nebraska’s transfer quarterback search, that turned chaotic unexpectedly. Kenny Minchey and Anthony Colandrea were the two top quarterbacks on Nebraska’s board, how those two were ordered depends on who you ask. Funny enough, Colandrea actually had his sights set on Nebraska when he entered the portal, but with the Huskers keyed in on Minchey, he and his agents shifted attention to the likes of Miami and Tennessee. Nebraska thought they had their guy locked in early in Minchey, but he flipped to Kentucky within 24 hours of initially committing to the Huskers. Luckily, Colandrea and his representatives were still interested, cancelling a scheduled trip to Miami to get to Lincoln on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Just in case, Nebraska lined up visits with Michigan State’s Aidan Chiles and Missouri’s Beau Pribula as well. Pribula was in the building when Colandrea arrived, but as Matt Rhule noted this week, once the UNLV transfer touched down on campus, it clicked.

““I watched him get out of the car, I shook his hand, met his mom, met his dad, watched him as he shook everyone’s hands, and as I was walking out I turned around to Logan (Holgorsen), I said, ‘That’s our guy,’” Rhule said on Huskers Radio Network. “Like, you could just feel the charisma, the juice, the energy.”

Within two hours of arriving on campus, Colandrea committed to Nebraska, the Huskers accepted, and quickly worked to get him signed. Colandrea might not have been Nebraska’s Plan A, but he wasn’t exactly Plan B or C. The portal rarely works out where everyone gets what they want, but Colandrea ended up exactly where he wanted to be and Nebraska believes they might have ended up with the better fit after all.

Imagine how much money they’re saving letting Keona go for Ant Jones.

There’s a high likelihood they overpaid for Anthony Jones.

They were reportedly throwing bags at top level dudes who wouldn’t even visit campus. They wanted better than what they got, but they were desperate.

The problem is schools like TT, Miami and Oregon don’t even see it as overpaying. They just look at as what it costs to get a yes. Teams like us can throw a bag at a player that is 20-30% over market value, and schools Texas, Texas Tech, Miami and OSU say… “Oh sure, we can match that no problem.” (or beat our offer by 10% if they think it’s necessary, probably won’t be if we’re the primary competition)

At that point the kid bumps “said school” up to his next visit and he never makes onto campus.

We have enough money to play ball it seems, especially if we had any sort of reputation of making the playoffs and/or putting kids in the league. But we don’t have enough to just money whip players into considering us. Like TT did last season, and this season as well.

Unfortunately, the rumor is we were matching those schools or in some cases we were the highest offer. The great portal targets simply didn't want to come here, and were willing to take less money in some instances not to come here. Damon was right, rich ugly dude at the bar vibes. Embarrassing.

It's just the cost of doing business in portal recruiting. All money being equal, kids are going to go to the winning program, just like they used to do in HS recruiting pre-NIL.

It’s just tough to sell much after year three how the last three games were absolute butt kickings.

I was called a potato here for suggesting good players want to transfer to a place where they think they can win.
