The positional cap is good in theory, but Nebraska(and FSU) dont have the recent success to set prices. Youre gonna have to overpay sometimes to get who you want when you arent producing results on the field and at the draft.

Texas Tech figured that out. If you arent the most desirable location/program/coach/etc, you have to overcome with Money.
Minchey and his Agent obv played Nebraska, but they also need to prevent that from happening in the first place
Every team has a cap. Cap is just different for each team, and they're each bound by their own allocation. Yes, you'll have to overpay at some positions - that means it comes out of somewhere else. Overpay at QB, you're underpaying elsewhere.

We may also have it in our allocation to "overpay" relative to the market at some spots (and likely did for Minchey, beating out multiple heavily interested suitors), but won't over-overpay beyond the allocated overpay.

Every team is doing this general framework.

I can’t imagine anyone is offering that much to either tbf
Some schmuck will pay them more than their model says they're worth when they are out of options

If you're a damaged goods C tier QB waiting until bar close is your best strategy to maximize your earnings. Every QB left has some glaring red flag

Colandrea - extremely high variance in performance. Cooked awful competition. Notorious turnover machine at last P4 stop
Lagway - Prolific bust. Turnover machine
Chiles - Benched
Pribula - Bust
Deuce Knight - Third string in a bad offense. QB guru HC imported his guy and didn't mind seeing him walk
Raiola - literal clown. wears the makeup and performs and everything

These schools are probably still in the market:
Miami - Raiola at this point seems likely
Ole Miss - Chambliss isn't getting a waiver
Us
Clemson - supposedly has an offer in to Chiles that he feels is low
Virginia - same as clemson with Lagway
Baylor
Northwestern - Chiles visiting today
Oregon

don't take what they say seriously. Come on - they are trying to buck up the room, not provide analysis to the public. I'm surprised anybody takes what coaches say about their team in a public forum seriously
I think this is being mentioned in relation to our reported lack of interest in a RB.

Are we at the point where we're complaining about the coaching staff giving a first team all-American too much PT?
Not at all, just calling attention to the fact that they pumped up what was behind Emmet until they saw it on the field

Now they love those same guys enough to stay out of the portal. Hard not to notice the pattern

If we paid Minchey $3m or whatever you’d be bitching about that instead. Just STFU already.
Speaking for myself here; without seeing the rest of our spending allocation, I likely wouldn’t bitch about it. If that’s the market for a quality QB that the staff has identified as their top option then that’s the market. Willing buyers and sellers don’t care about our feelings regarding what a “good price” is.

Due to the lack of a cap or strong regulatory framework, the market for high quality and impactful transfers will be ‘irrational’ to a lot of people. To programs that clearly have resources, they don’t care and pay the rate necessary to be competitive. With it starting to become apparent we aren’t willing to do that it begs the question, do we have as much money as we thought we did? Rhule certainly seemed to think so in October and I was under that impression as well.

Its hitting people like a brick we probably don’t have the resources and/or will to build the roster we need to meaningful improve from the status quo (which sucks) and as a result all of the anguish that would hit during a regular season when the fans realize the program is going to underperform expectations is hitting all at once. Everybody here implicitly or explicitly understands the roster needs are URGENT, we need MANY high quality players now. It doesn’t seem the urgency is there from this program as the limited pool of high quality players at edge/QB/DT/Tackle continue to fly off the board.

Yes, they say they like those dudes, and have been consistent on that.

But the only way those dudes play is if EJ comes off. EJ was an All-American who ran well the entire season without wearing down. I don't think you can infer much about the backups by the fact the coaching staff didn't pull our best player off the field much.
