In absolute fairness to Dayton, he was never going to play here.
I am wondering if you still have to bring in a high school qb every year with the transfer portal, especially if they want a lot of money? Sure you absolutely take the Bryce Underwoods of the world, but if you already have a full room that you need to pay, I am not sure it still makes sense.

I kind of wonder if maybe that last visit didnt go something like:
Dayton: "coach, Lateef is looking pretty good. How are you thinking I'll fit in?"
Rhule: "Look, Lateef is next up and we got Trae coming in the year after and he's the truth. We'll give you a chance to compete, but its not looking good."

Paraphrasing, of course, because I imagine someone swore during this convo too.

Honestly I bet 95-98% of HS qbs are dirt cheap.

They’re going to run it back with Dylan, TJ and Davila (lol) next year. I can’t blame Dayton although I’d have to imagine he would’ve been better off coming here and then transferring next year, unless we cut him loose to use the scholarship elsewhere

If you’re doing the moneyball approach, you still want a shot with at least 1 HS QB a year. Cheaper than transfers, kinda like getting a good QB out of the draft and they’re still on their rookie deal.

Makes sense. That's a conversation that is best had in person.
