Fantasy Coaching Carousel

Lashlee to Arky is a 🔥🔥 pick
I haven’t seen anyone talk about it - but alum, great record at SMU, he’s GOTTA be moving to bigger pasture. Then Morris can basically stay right where he is…bring North Texas across town and keep rolling at a higher paying job

SMU just signed him to a fat extension though. I’d imagine the buyout for Arkansas would be substantial.

I just think the majority of those ACC guys and Big 12 guys HAVE to see the writing on the wall…you have to win your conference every year to go to the playoffs OR you can jump for an SEC/B1G job and be top 3 or 4 to guarantee a spot in the post season.

You work to make that work, because after 1 postseason appearance, you get top 5-10 money anyways…and the P2 has the money for buyouts. I also haven’t seen any detail that his buyout to take another job has gone up?

A non official bonus pick: Dabo to Florida St, stays in conference and sticks it to Clemson. BUT my Auburn fan fiction is my favorite thing I’ve cooked up haha

Double Bonus Fan Fiction non official: Sark bolts from Texas before it kills him…Texas takes a stab at the Alum train wreck, Major Applewhite comes home.

ArkansasRhett Lashlee
AuburnDan Mullen (but damn I want Dabo to do it)
FloridaEli Drinkwitz
LSUSumrall seems like a no brainer down the road, especially with the Governor involved - fan base will flip out (although Brady scares me to go here)
Penn StateD’Anton Lynn (they are going to strike out and go Alum)
Oklahoma StateAlex Golesh
StanfordFrank Reich stays…
Virginia TechJames Franklin (I truly don’t get this one, but sounds like it’s coming)
UCLASean Lewis

4 I think will come open:

ClemsonTony Elliott
SMUEric Morris
MissouriCollin Klein
Michigan StJason Eck (even though it SHOULD be Jason Candle)
SDSU's Lewis is a damn good coach with B1G pedigree

he'd toughen up UCLA in a hurry

If Clemson comes open, do you think there’s a chance Venables goes back or gets pursued?

I feel like that would be on par with how chaotic this year has gone lol

I love the thought - but I just don’t think you go SEC to ACC especially when finally it’s figured it out this year at Oklahoma. And OU was his first love before Clemson

Any coach, who is winning at his current school, would be a damn fool to go from SEC/B1G to any other conference.

Unless Dabo goes off the deep end before the end of the year I think he gets a mulligan. Clemson fans are pissed as are donors of substance, but he does have a ton of built up credit.

Also Venables knows what Clemson is like and in all honestly it’s not much different from an expectation standpoint than OU…without the SEC money, media attention and recruiting reach. He does look like he’s got it figured out in Norman now, so I’d be shocked if he even thinks about going anywhere.

I agree 100%. It made sense in my head at the time but you and @djw004 talked me off the ledge. Doesn’t make sense to leave and I was unaware of Venables history with OU.

I tend to also agree that Dabo gets a mulligan, but I will say his leash is much shorter than many think. I’m out here in the Carolinas and many are fed up with his antics. The sentiment is Dabo’s gotta go if he’s unwilling to do the song and dance with boosters for financials and make the portal the number one priority.

Well there goes one of my guesses 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thought he was as good as gone after some reports a week or so ago.

I think you’d be right normally. But I think none of these middle-tier-at-best schools want to be in a search this year.

A college football podcast I listen to was doing this and I thought it would be a fun thing to try on the board.

1) Predict 4 other P4 schools that will have head coaching openings this cycle.

2) Add those 4 schools to the list of the 9 current P4 openings (Stanford, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Penn State, Florida, LSU, Auburn) and fill out your board with your predictions for which coaches will take those jobs.

3) Points will be scored as followed:

  • 100 points for correctly guessing a P4 job that comes open.
  • 100 points for correctly guessing a coach who takes ANY new P4 job.
  • 250 points for correctly matching a coach to their new school.

No money involved. Just the chance to prove you’re the greatest coaching carousel mind in all of tPB. If you’re interested in participating, make your prediction post ITT before midnight this coming Saturday (Nov 15).

If so, I'd be happy for him. He's put the time in.
