Jesus, thanks for proving the old saying right — you’ll never go broke betting against the intelligence of “fans” like you. This program’s been a trainwreck for two decades, but you think it should all be fixed in a couple of years because… what, we’re Nebraska?

While I agree for the most part to be fair Indiana and Vanderbilt did it pretty much over night and we have been spinning our wheels for a good 20 years now. Also people can say what they want about Pelini I'd actually kill for 9 wins right now but he also had problems winning big games and most were on the blowout end. Bottom line is we have to stop rewarding mediocrity they gave Frost a extention after a 5-7 season for God sakes now we give Rhule one and more underperformance. We’d all take 9 wins for sure. 9 wins today is more impressive than 9 wins in 2010. Pelini probably would win 7 or 8 in today’s college football.
Vandy also didn’t do it overnight. Lea was 2-10, 5-7, 2-10 before last year. If the SVC existed at Vandy he would’ve never made it to see Pavia.
College football fans may need to get used to losing more often. Is anyone ready?
It's getting harder to win big in college football at the same time that patience for perceived underperformance is as thin as ever.

Also, I get people wanting to flip it overnight like Indiana. But I’m an SMU fan, and they didn’t flip it overnight night but for the last 12 years have just gotten better. There have been hiccups but it’s much more of a case for Nebraska to follow I think. And I think nil is pretty similar. Raiola makes more than Jennings (who basically lost the playoff game by himself last year).

A couple things:
1) Expectations at Vandy and Indiana are incredibly low. Our fans would have rioted if Cignetti was hired. It would’ve been a Tennessee/Schiano situation. Clark Lea’s record at Vandy was 2-10, 5-7, 2-10, 7-6 and now he’s finally doing well in his 5th season. His overall record is 23-35 there. It wasn’t a quick turn around.
2) 9 wins under Pelini in the Big Ten circa 2011-2014 is worth about 6 wins in today’s Big 10. He’s an average coach. If schools today felt like he was good, they would be willing to put up with his antics. There’s a reason he’s out of coaching.
Rhule has things trending in the right direction, which is more than we can say about many coaches in the last 20 years.
