July 🌭 Recruiting Thread

Not if Pittman commits now. He’d surely drop to a 4 star at some point if he committed to us now and shut down his recruitment. Probably stay a 5 star if he entertains all the SEC schools for another year or so before he commits.

I wish this wasn’t true…

We should never lose a head-to-head recruitment against Cockeye State again. They are a bunch of poors who can't pay players. Which is why they're stocking their '26 class with a bunch of low three-stars from Nebraska who won't demand much money.
There athletic department is 140 million negative over the next decade

The stadium renovation for Hilton Coliseum they are postponing indefinetly was only $25 million. For perspective, Hilton was built five years before the Devaney Center. They are also scrapping plans for a wrestling practice facility.

Up until now, ISU athletics were self-supporting, but now they are facing an $24.5 million deficity annually with rev-share and other costs from the House Settlement. And this is a Power 4 school.

I have to imagine that schools outside the Power 2, and perhaps some within, will be cutting non-revenue sports pretty soon as they try to balance their checkbooks for the coming years.

I hope we cut some shit sports too

Dose of reality - what is one recruit that was downgraded after committing to us that they were wrong about? Raridon was the one we were all upset about...and the recruiting services were right.

I think Wandale Robinson was downgraded and I also think Cam Jurgens was as well. But your assertion is still 100% accurate IMO. The reality is that Mike Riley and Scrote didn’t recruit many (or any) legit NFL caliber players. I do believe, and someone correct me if I’m wrong, there was an article about a yearish ago that calculated we have the worst ā€œhit rate percentageā€ on 4* recruits among all P4 schools.

Our recruiting has been a dumpster fire fraud for about 15 years. Pelini did little to nothing once Callahan’s recruits dried up. Mike Riley would make the top 3 of like 20% of the top 250 recruits, and land maybe one of them. Scrote… was a lazy piece of dog shit that had every advantage going for him, (especially the 1st couple years) and still couldn’t put in at least the minimum effort to capitalize on his momentum (coming from UCF) and utilize the almost unlimited resources NU provided.

10+ years of shitty coaches = 10+ years of shitty recruiting.

Do all these 4 stars suddenly suck when they get here even though they were also recruited by all the top teams? Or do we fail to develop them so they never amount to anything?

I think we’ve been terrible at development until recently, but we also got a lot of four stars who were very lightly recruited. That’s why our lazy staffs were able to land them.

I think it’s 2 fold IMO, and this is just from my 10,000 ft observations over the last 40 years.

1. We are getting bottom tier 4* players and/or talented (4*) players that other teams are passing on for multiple different reasons. We’re not getting the players that are a combination of talented and smart/mature. We’ve been getting smart or mature players that aren’t talented enough to win with, and talented players that aren’t smart or mature enough to win with.

2. We haven’t found a coach/coaching staff that can develop these players. A lot of schools are forced to take or settle on more ā€œriskyā€ 4* recruits, talented players with some questions. But none of those schools are dead last in production from 4* recruits. And none of them have such an abysmal NFL draft record over the last 15 years. We can’t develop players.

Summary: Many/most of our 4* recruits have some red flags and/or questions that we tend to ignore or downplay cause we desperately want them to be legit. And our coaches suck diseased donkey balls when it comes to developing talent and leading young men.
