I’ll answer this question from a first person perspective. I’m 29 for reference.honest question
growing up the past 10 years in Omaha, why the fvck would you want to be a nebraska fan?
I see more oregon and texas hats/clothes around when watching nephew play baseball than I ever see nebraska stuff
Both parents are Huskers fans, mom born and raised in bfe Nebraska, dad was a military kid who didn’t live here full time until hs but still a fan.
Growing up I’d watch Nebraska with my parents. Memories of mom’s homemade wings and all the snacks still flood my mind.
I vaguely remember the Callahan days but do remember the day he got fired. Lol
Older brother whose 6 years older than me never liked Nebraska he’s a whorn but started because of augie and baseball.
Anyway being a stubborn child I routed against my parents and brother and those around me because I thought it was the cool thing todo. In 04 i became a usc “fan” i main just like Reggie.( yes i was i. Elementary school)
Fast forward 2008-09 tcu was playing Texas In baseball and me being a shithead sibling I rooted for them. Then it became my team. I warped my self into a horny toad.
To me it started as being a “rebel” but at that time I found other teams to be more interesting in multiple ways. Hell I even was more of a uno fan in regards to going to football games.
I really didn’t start converting back to nebie until sophomore junior year of hs after I had former teammates walk on.
I strongly remember sophomore hoco our first year in the Big, we were playing osu and I was pissing all my friends off as they were playing the game on the project.
So long story short for those who will TLDR, when I was younger it was more about “rebelling” and other teams being interesting.
