What to know with Nebraska targets after official visits elsewhere this past weekend?

How did visits go for Nebraska targets that went elsewhere on May 31?

Mike SchaeferMike Schaefer7 hrsVIP2

A number of Nebraska official visitors over the next month got out on the road and took trips elsewhere to end May and begin June.

None of Nebraska's planned official visitors committed publicly as of the publishing of this article, which could certainly change, but is a good sign for the Huskers.

Still there was a lot that happened. Not everyone has talked yet, but checking around the network Husker247 learned a few things about a number of targets:

— Four-star cornerback Danny Odem was at Clemson this weekend and by all accounts things seemed to be good as it related to the visit.

Perhaps more interestingly though Odem has a change in his recruiting schedule and he's now expected to visit Ohio State right before coming to Nebraska. He's headed to Oklahoma next weekend.

Nebraska identified Odem early and the former Pennsylvania product turned First Academy player out of Orlando has emerged as a pretty talented defensive back that seems to be arrow up in recruiting.

Props to John Butler and company who have been on the money on more than a few of their defensive back targets thus far. But it doesn't matter if they don't get commits.

— Interior offensive lineman Deacon Schmitt had a strong visit weekend in Tuscaloosa where it was his first time visiting Alabama. The lineman spoke highly of what he saw and the offensive line coach that he's built a strong relationship with there.

Schmitt has a lot of visits on the agenda, so he's going to be an interesting one to track, but Nebraska has some connections and he's got a great relationship with the staff. Additionally Schmitt hasn't been to Lincoln in awhile, so there's a chance to really impress by simply getting back to a place he knows but hasn't been to in a minute.

Valdin Sone is going to have a wild recruitment. The defensive lineman took a "surprise" official visit to both Auburn and then camped at Georgia.

The lineman is an absolute powerhouse with rare explosion so the chase for him is going to be difficult. Nebraska still doesn't have a listed official visit date like Florida and Oklahoma do, but the plan is still to get him on campus.

It's an uphill battle but Nebraska's approach has been unique and the ties are deep.

— As expected Southridge defensive lineman Kamron Wilson, committed to Syracuse, had a good visit with Mississippi State. The defensive lineman left Starkville feeling better about the program and knowing a lot more.

Still he's got some big visits coming with Nebraska, which wowed him in the spring, Syracuse which holds his commitment and then Florida State, which is where the predictions were made for earlier in the year.

Nebraska is a real dark horse here.

— Much like Odem, First Academy defender Devin Jackson is becoming a hotly contested recruit this summer. The defender is fresh off an LSU visit where the intel points to a strong visit and connection with the staff.

Apparently the Tigers liked Jackson a lot and he's going to be hearing even more following the visit. The problem for LSU is the schedule is loaded. Next up is Miami. Then either Florida or Oregon and Nebraska has the last shot on June 20.

The Huskers have had Jackson on campus a couple times and the relationship with Addison Williams is a strong one.

— Like roller coasters in recruiting? Try the Zavion Griffin-Haynes story where the North Carolina native was originally committed to UNC, then decommitted, then announced a top group that didn't include the Tar Heels, before reconsidering and switching an official visit to get back to Chapel Hill, and now UNC is the leader for the lineman.

Bill Belichick

One thing I am curious about that Griffin-Haynes mentioned is how he'd do with distance. The lineman is close with his mom, but Nebraska coach Matt Rhule has won over a lot of mothers and there's good relationships on staff as well like Phil Simpson.

Nebraska certainly isn't the favorite, but this one intrigues me.

— Not much is in yet on Florida's hosting of CJ Bronaugh. The feeling is Florida is going to be really tough to beat with that one. More if and when we have it.

To sum up: every visit ever taken by any recruit was “strong” or “good.”

The next report about a croot feeling luke warm about a visit will be the first.
