March Recruiting Thread

we have 3 2026 commitments so far - on paper (I say "on paper" because the second one has never spoken to his current position coach)

I don't like that Shorts has not spoken to DBW yet. He's been on the job three months and hasn't taken the time to reach out to a guy that is publically committed to your program? Even if he's no longer a take, man up and communicate with him. Treat people right. I hate the "just ignore him until he figures it out on his own we don't want him" strategy.

That's super annoying.

I think they do it this way so the player can come to realize he isn't wanted and can then de-commit himself after finding a new place. The optics of doing it this way are better for the player.

He could still do this if we communicated our intentions with him.

Lol

College doesn't have to announce that they wanted them to decommit.

No kidding

But if we communicated to him that the offer was gone, it would become known. Getting recruited by someone else is also easier process for him if he can still say he has a Nebraska offer. It happens like this everywhere for this reason, not just at Nebraska.

Probably half of the "flips" we get from P2 schools are guys in the same position as this guy.

OK, but I just don't think that is a valid reason to cut off communication with a guy who is committed to your program. Let him know what's going on.

Perhaps. But it isn't being done because no one has the balls to tell the kid. That's the least plausible explanation in my view.

It's the only plausible explanaion in my view. I just don't belive there is any benefit to not telling a kid he's being cut from the class and stringing him along for months. Wouldn't he get more attention from other schools if they knew he was available again?

Now, to give Nebraska the beneift of the doubt, I believe the source for all this is Mongo reporting that Shorts has not talked to him yet. Mongo specically said Shorts has not spoken to him yet, leaving open the possiblity that someone else in the recruiting department has and is keeping him up to date on his standing.

I would think that if Shorts wanted him, he'd speak with him. It's not like he has a lengthy list of commits to call. On top of that, the kid does not have an OV scheduled, and he missed last season with a fractured knee.

A lot has changed in the recruiting world since last November (certainly we have an entirely different approach than last year), plus the AC recruiting him left.

I am guessing he isn't in the class. Mongo likely got the info about Shorts from the player would be my guess. The rest of the recruiting organization is in flux right now.
