Any reason to think it would be Dvoracek? I don't know much about him still but isn't he super young? Is he just already known as a wiz kid?
I believe it's because there have been rumors/murmurs that Rhule/White have been grooming him for that role over the past year or so. Why they chose him? That I can't answer.

Quick hits, news and notes from Nebraska's third practice of the spring:

— Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule said that the team is striking a bit of a delicate balance with getting Nash Hutmacher back to football. Rhule said he didn't initially want Hutmacher doing much in practice this week seeing as he's less than a week removed from competing in the NCAA Wrestling National Championships.

Hutmacher will be going through individual periods this week, Rhule said.

"We want to give him time to rest his body, but he also wants to be out there with his teammates.

Rhule said Hutmacher wants to get back up to 310 pounds before the start of the season.

— Rhule said running back Emmett Johnson made plays last year when he was called on, and Johnson is among the top players athletically on the team.

"He proved he's a man that when given the opportunity can get yards," Rhule said.

— Freshmen Dylan Raiola and Daniel Kaelin have done a nice job of getting prepared for the spring in terms of their understanding of the offense. Rhule said the reason the young quarterbacks are faring so well is because the prep work they did in the offseason.

— Nebraska is running three different practice setups during practices to give their players more reps. In order to ramp up competition, Nebraska's staff has formed a bit of a spring league — with three teams made up of an offense and defense.

"It makes different players have to go against different people, and it's giving each quarterback an opportunity to captain their own team," Rhule said.

— Syracuse linebacker Stefon Thompson has had a hard transition to Nebraska, Rhule said. Thompson showed up out of shape, and Rhule said the linebacker has gotten up to speed in recent weeks. Rhule said he's pushing Thompson specifically to accelerate his pro career.

"Trying to get our guys to really raise his level of expectation," Rhule said.

— Rhule said Micah Mazzccua is in a good place and learning the expectations in the program and where he needs to improve at the next level.

There's a lot to get done in 15 practices. So pack the reps on the plate like it's an old-school Sunday buffet line. Open up three fields to make sure it happens. Make the competition stretch an octave higher by having guys represent different teams within the team – be you a Bugeater, an Old Gold Knight or a Rattlesnake Boy.

Thursday was third-down derby day, for example. Alright, boys, go compete. Ideally by the end of April those Husker quarterbacks everyone is talking about will have stacked up the snaps and the progress to make their coaches think they could go make hay when we're keeping track for real.

"I'm expecting them both to be ready to start," Matt Rhule said Thursday of his young quarterbacks Dylan Raiola and Daniel Kaelin. "We have three quarterbacks on scholarship. I need three quarterbacks who can start. So, high expectations. That doesn't mean they will start. I probably won't even worry about who the actual guy is ... I've kind of gone as who that's illuminated to us."
