TPB Travel thread

Its basically everything Cancun is except everyone speaks English and perfectly safe on or off resort. You can do all inclusive but we didn't. We went and got groceries and cooked a few meals and ate out at the different restaurants. Not sure you can go wrong at the resorts but we stayed at Alaia. Someone else on the board was there same time as me and I think stayed in an Airbnb. Can't see anything wrong with that either if you had a group.

@HCFord1 I think stayed at more of a jungle type resort which i imagine would be fun too.
Yeah we stayed in the jungle near Punta Gorda by the border with Guatemala, which was awesome. Also did a few days at the beach near Placencia which was really nice too.

I would go back to San Pedro, Belize in a heartbeat. Great vibe on Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker. Amazing seafood. Loved picking the fresh catch at Caramba and having the chef cook it up. Swimming with the sharks and rays was a highlight. Just the people in general - very friendly to Americans even if they had nothing to do with the tourism and hospitality industry on the island. We asked one man in San Pedro for directions to a local restaurant that wasn’t showing up on Google Maps. The guy walked with us for several blocks until we found it.

The downside - sargassum can be rough. We stayed at a condo and the beach was not cleared of the dead seaweed. That stuff really packs a punch to the nostrils. Because of the barrier reef, the waves are breaking a quarter mile offshore. Don’t get the same beach scene as in Costa Rica or Mexico. Feels more like sitting by a lake.
