The people that are making JFK video analyses of Lateef from those 2 games are just as bad as the Lateeftards IMHO. You didn't learn anything from those games that's definitive.


In the end we'll get a portal JR or SR QB most likely so it won't matter.

There were some inconsistent throws that he missed badly that had nothing to do with the defense or his hammy, throws that Dylan absolutely would hit.

But, he has some traits to like. He generally throws a very nice ball and he's good enough to move around a bit and if he can mature (weight room and consistency throwing) he could absolutely be the guy.

What's crazy to me is those saying Lateef is clearly better than Dylan, I don't know what they're watching. Even after the UCLA game you had like 120 of his 200 yards coming on screen passes that went the distance. Nothing wrong with that but it also doesn't show you much.
 
I'm glad TJ is staying (for now).

it's likely we'll have an entirely new regime here for the 2028 season.

I can't help but chuckle at those projecting out our starting QB beyond 1 year.

here's hoping we have an actual QB competition this spring/fall and may the best man win.

dylan's longest completion this year was a catch-and-run screen to Hunter.

TJ's longest completion this year was an absolute dot bomb that traveled 50 yards in the air.
 
Everything we saw from LaTeef suggests he’s not CJ Stroud but he’s also not Joe Bauserman, he’s somewhere in the middle.

Anyone saying one extreme or the other is an emotion idiot.

You could clearly see the QB he could be against a bad UCLA defense.

You could clearly see the QB he currently is against Cockeye.

I see a lot of potential in LaTeef and I think there’s a lot to be said about surrounding and protecting him with better talent.

I don’t think Fernando Mendoza would have looked great against Cockeye and PSU given our lack of pass protection and bad wr play especially in the Cockeye game. I don’t think we win either of those games with great QB play but they might have been a lot closer.

There’s really three things that need to happen here if he ends up being the starter next year.
  1. We hit on some pass protectors in the portal.
  2. Keep or give him weapons to throw to.
  3. He develops well.

3/3 = He’s serviceable next year and could be a very good QB in a couple years

1/3 or 2/3 = He’s meh next year, we do just enough to make a bowl and Rhules seat is only lukewarm.

0/3 = We suck ass, Rhules seat gets scorching hot, all hope is lost.

In the end, if we don’t get a handpicked older QB to come take the job, Rhule and Holgo need to evaluate how many of those 3 things they feel confident in accomplishing this offseason.

Receivers did TJ no favors against Cockeye and pedo st.
 
Kind of interesting, DR really excelled this year compared to avg when outside the pocket. Stats kind of show what we all saw during the last 2 years though (even with TJ, and probably due to pressure concerns?). It's a very short, ball control type of passing game. average depth of target at 6.9 vs 9.9 avg. Really bad when pressured. We were also terrible on play action.
 
IMO TJ really struggled playing from behind. Going back and watching the first halves of PSU and Cockeye I didn't think his performance was terribly bad, but when he needed to start pushing to make things happen when we were down by 100 the wheels kind of fell off.

yes.

our ceiling with Dyldo is extremely limited.

no identity, no leadership, incredibly soft, etc.

without him and with the new OL coach + DC, my hope is we're able to actually establish some of the things that Rhule preached about when hired and that have worked time and again throughout the history of football - getting tougher, running the goddamn ball and exerting our will on our opponents.

now, I will also acknowledge our ceiling with Rhule on the sideline is also extremely limited given he does nothing to provide us with any sort of strategic advantage over any opposing coaching staffs.

long story short - I don't think Dyldo is worth a single win above what can be expected with TJ at QB in 2026.
