LaTeeftards

Obviously not ready, but my underlying premise is that he will never be ready at NU due to timing. I think he could be a serviceable QB somewhere else, I just don't see it working out that way here.

Just like with his development being largely an unknown, I don’t think I can definitively say his NU career won’t pan out due to timing.

IF Taylor ends up honoring his commitment in ’27, he’ll be a true Freshman that year and likely very similar in stature to Lateef now. By ’27 (if he’s still here) Lateef will be a Jr (or at minimum be in his third year in the program). I can’t say what he’ll do physically, which is really the driver for me.

For ’26, I suspect we bring in a portal guy to add to Lateef and Davila as our most likely suspects in the QB room. I’d have to see how that plays out, or at least a portion of ’26 play out before I wrote him off. IMO it’s too early to tell him to clear off a spot on the mantle for his Heisman and too early to say he’s going to flame out, but we’ll see.

100% agree. I'm working off the idea that NU gets a multi-year portal guy. Bridging the gap to Taylor, assuming he stays with his commitment.

I guess I just have a fundamental disagreement with this. Typically, a young QB would have some trait that stands out that you can really see a high upside in. I didn't see any in TJ.

Outside of that I agree with the second statement.
What trait do you need to have stand out?

Did Taylor Martinez have a trait stand out? How did that work out?

He was fast. But once that was caught on, he was a standing duck in that pocket that couldn't hit an open wide receiver 76% of the time.

Right now, Lateef has a lot of good measurables and good QB skills; he's not going to win the Heisman these next few years, but as long as he can keep defenses honest with good pocket presence, good reads and throws, and be able to run when needed, that's all we need.

Taylor Martinez was first team All-B1G his junior year, so I think he was pretty good when healthy.

When he was healthy, yes. But he got hurt a few times that would derail his progression as a QB.

But that's the point. You can't base any one player, especially a QB, off of just a few games.

I won't debate whether LaTeef should be the guy next season or not. But I will continue to argue Nebraska fans who were clamoring for LaTeef during the season, but now wanting to run him off was the most predictable thing in Nebraska Fan Message Board history.

As a true freshman, thrust into 2 road starts and a start against one of the top defenses in college football, he finished with 850 total yards, 7 TDs, and 0 Ints, and 1 fumble playing behind an offensive line that struggled all season.

They will likely run him out there vs. Utah at 75%. I suspect he will play well and Nebraska still loses by 3 scores.

Should they go spend a couple million on a Transfer QB? Probably, but the first time that kid loses a game and throws 2 picks, our fans will "out on him" too.

Okay but I think the claim that he wasn’t a good QB is incredibly inaccurate

Yeah I've probably said it elsewhere, but Lateef has shown some good shit. If the situation were different and this were year 1 or 2 of Rhule, I could see the argument for letting him learn on the job next season, but Rhule is in a situation now where they need to put a strong team on the field next year or prepare to get trashed 8+ times

Martinez was an elite one trick pony which made him like a 1.5 trick pony pre-injury in that teams were so scared of him running he could literally close his eyes when throwing bombs .

But that's the level you need to be at as a scramble-y boi to justify being that shitty at most levels of passing

As someone who wanted Lateef half-way through the season, its because something about Dylan being our QB was off. He just didn't seem like the right fit for what we wanted to do. Not saying he was a bad QB or a bad ambassador of Nebraska, but something just felt off when he was in. Every pass almost seemed like it was the hardest thing ever to do. Nothing seemed easy in throwing plays.

I wanted Lateef because it seemed like he was recruited for the system. Dylan was a legacy, 5 star QB. You don't say no to that. You bring him in and you tailor the offense around him, while keeping what you want for a system. But TJ was that player recruited for that system that was initially visioned.

I don't think Lateef is ready to run this offense. I think he needs another year and another good QB behind him ready to go. But this year, I think he needs a good senior QB in front of him so Lateef can be another year of the playbook and additional games of mop-up duties.

Also remember in the PSU and Cockeye games, we just decided to stop playing defense, period. And it got the DC fired.

I don't know how people can't see that is an impossible scenario for 98% of true FR QBs making their 2nd and 3rd starts. Plus he had a hamstring injury in the 3rd game.

The people that are making JFK video analyses of Lateef from those 2 games are just as bad as the Lateeftards IMHO. You didn't learn anything from those games that's definitive.

In the end we'll get a portal JR or SR QB most likely so it won't matter.

I’d hope they would peruse the best players at all positions and no idea if lateef can be the guy or not

That said there is a HUGE difference between being the guy during winter, spring, summer, and fall camp and getting most of your reps with the first team and having the coordinator game planning for the season based on your strengths and weaknesses verse not being the guy, taking most of your reps with the 2nd team and being thrust in to action due to injury.

Is anyone trying to run him off???
