You are welcome to think Williams was the reason our secondary was elite. I tend to think it was more Butler given their respective backgrounds, but that’s fine. Agree on the recruiting side.

That’s fair. It seemed to me we had an elite run defense and passing was the only way to score. But we still had the 17th ranked scoring defense vs our 105th ranked scoring offense so I don’t know it was necessarily a glaring weakness.

The same year, 2024, UCF had the 82th ranked scoring defense with similar defensive passing stats as ours

we started to see him do this last year. Addison Williams is a proven assistant coach, Ekeler as STC, Dana as OC, Shorts at WR Coach. My biggest gripe is those hires should of been Year 1 hires not several years into this.

It's not hard to understand why he takes that approach on candidates. "Proven assistants and coordinators" are simply guys who topped out in their current jobs, and with some guys, that affects how hard they work.

There is a decent chance you get a real difference maker going with the motivated up & comer. "Proven" guys can probably give you incremental improvement at best.
