Part of the reason I feel extra patient with Rhule is because he's an actual normal human, which is apparently so much rarer for a football coach than I ever knew.

If your guy is in the bag but just can’t say it yet, you’re not getting embarrassed by Jabba the Hut from BYU and putting out that Brohm is your sure fire safety valve. You’re just letting people wonder and staying quiet until you can announce…

I personally think Cignetti was their target and he spurned their offer and now they've turned their focus to a candidate that is still in the playoff picture.

That said, these other "offers" that are being leaked could absolutely be coming from outside coaches' camps versus PSU. Every coach in America is jockeying to leverage these openings for a new contract.

I put this in another thread, but it's going to cost them $3M more for the same guy they could have had 2 weeks ago. He has ALL the leverage.

Penn State just isn't as attractive of a job in the NIL era imo. Their biggest strength was being near a hotbed of talent in Pennsylvania and Ohio, but that doesn't carry as much weight when you can just write checks to get players. They're in the middle of nowhere, difficult to travel to, and they can say what they want, but the rape scandal will follow them forever.

That said, Lavar Arrington continues to insist on his show that their candidate is still available and the plan is still in place, indicating their lead candidate is still in the playoff hunt and they are allowing him to play it out.

Personally, I think they overplayed their hand.

That just doesn’t make any sense, every coach with a likelihood or certainty of making the playoffs either just signed an extension and/or already have a clearly better job. I guess you never say never in today’s CFB. But I can’t pick out even one coach from that pool of 15ish coaches (playoff contenders) that makes any sense taking the PSU job?
