Major Whif not to replace them in the portal though. I was a huge proponent of letting guys develop over a few years like Nash and Ty did. Nah, just replace em with absolute hogs in the portal so there’s no drop off. Huge miss and it’s showing

If only it was that easy.

There weren't a ton of difference makers available on the interior D line this past cycle and a lot of competition. Not sure it’s as easy as ‘replace em with absolute hogs’.

Bradden is another example of Rhule bringing in development coaches. Bradden may be able to coach however he has NO recruiting ties as he’s coming from the NFL. It will take years for him to establish some of those relationships. NU is not a program or paying for development coaches. The assistants are getting paid really well but a lot aren’t able to execute right away.

If the Eck hire doesn’t open Rhule’s eyes to needing to bring in assistants who can execute right now then nothing will.

I still can’t get over how bad Rhule’s first staff was. Cav and MaGuirre alone were horrible. Will not get back into Satterfield. The AD will have to push him but he seems to be stubborn that this is his way.

To be fair Bradden walked into a difficult situation. We all were concerned about the dline lacking size and experience. Now, some coaches are able to bring a player or two with them, Bradden didn’t have that luxury so this will be his 1st full recruiting cycle. I’m gonna hold of some judgement until I see what we do this cycle. We could, in theory (other teams have done it) completely flip the script if we hit on a couple good portal transfers.

Now the oline on the other hand… We spent a bunch of money Spindler and Prichett. The narrative and drum beat was the oline would be a strength and they’ve been the same shit show we’ve seen for years now. Spindler has been good to serviceable but not great by any means. Prichett by all accounts has been almost a complete bust through 7 games. Donnie has had 4 years to produce an above average offensive line. How many more years of failure do we need to see? Rhule… You fell for it again.

Agree and I think Bradden will have the chance to be a coach who can execute in coaching and recruiting at the level we need however it may take five years to get there. Do we have five years and is that what we’re paying for to develop coaches while we don’t get results?

Lol Bradden doesn’t need 5 years. If he’s worth a shit he’ll field a vastly improved Dline next year. This isn’t 2002 anymore, coaches don’t necessarily need great HS ties to retool a position group. He just needs money and the smarts to spend it wisely.

When you go from having Butler, Robinson, and Nutsmasher who got most of the snaps last year to this year's of Jeudy, Lenhardt, and Van Poppel, it's really hard to have a fair idea if its the coach or the talent.

Even a great chef is going to have issues making a good plate with hamburger helper, american cheese slices, and mustard.
I could do it.

1: Jeudy, Lenhardt and Van Poppel do not make anywhere near enough plays. To the point that when you actually do hear their names you had forgotten that they play. We desperately need some sort of production from those guys and we are getting next to none.

2: The transfer portal has been a casino crapshoot for Nebraska.

The good rolls of the dice...

Andrew Marshall
Dasan McCullough
Kyle Cunanan
Kevin Gallic
Peter North
Nyziah Hunter
Williams Nwaneri
Evan Stone
Jamir Conn

Crapped out......

Rocco Spindler. For the supposed amount we are paying he should dominate and he has just been average.
Elijah Pritchett. See Spindler, but instead of average he has been too many times a detriment. Not worth top dollar.

Missing so badly on the OL positions has cost us. Its not like we didn't try, we did bring in like 5 OTs for visits before EP.

Marques Watson-Trent. He hasn't dispelled the rumors that the BIg 10 was too high of a reach for him.
Dane Key. Zero catches against MSU and Minne. 3 for 36 yards against Mich. What are we paying top dollar for again?

Jaylen George. Non factor player.
Gabe Moore. Non factor player.

I will say about those two DL that I doubt they are getting any sort of NIL or rev share money.

Justyn Rhett. Probably wasn't in the plan for this year anyway. Has played some and made no splashes.
Marcos Davila. Passed by a true freshman and a former lower division safety on the QB depth chart.
Hardly Gilmore. Just a waste of time all around and wasting time costs you in other areas.
Jack McCallister. We passed on him to get......Archie WIlson who has not been the "weapon" we were sold on. (I think Archie counts as a freshman and not a transfer)

So that puts us at 7 for 17 hits in the old transfer portal, which to me is probably what the average is, but we crapped out with the two high dollar OL and big money WR. When 2 of your 7 good ones are specialists you see that we have only 5 high snap count contributors out of the 17, which is bad bad bad for the money invested.
You’re complaining Fire the sake of complaining. Saying that Spindler and Key are busts is overdramatic at best. Spindler has been our best lineman and Key has caught four TD passes so far, including a one handed catch to win the game last week.

Then you list McCallister (a guy who for all intents and purposes was never here, and was replaced by a freshman who has performed well), and Davila (a guy who was brought in for the sake of depth at the QB position and nothing more) as misses. It’s all a bit disingenuous.

I think our hit rate out of the portal has been decent, but the problem is we have more gaps than we even attempted to fill through the portal.

Then why did we hire Mozee? We don’t have NIL like that. We lost Sone to GA over NIL.

Don't forget the HS TE coach who resigned after picking up the DUI before Rhule's first season started.

That can change overnight. And if our top boosters and wealthy Nebraskans general keep thinking Rhule (or anyone) can serve them a 5* meal with 3* ingredients then it doesn’t matter anyway. This is our ceiling then. I tend to believe they will come along eventually, the concept of NIL is still brand new. Especially in the eyes of a 72 year old multimillionaire.

Expecting any kind of performance from nepotism hire Unqualified Uncle Donnie’s group is a you problem

Frustrating thing for me is what was and is the plan for the lines?

Everyone knew that Ty and Nash were going to be gone for a while, so what was the plan to replace them? Rhule said you know how much a good DT is in the portal? I understand if you don't have the money but where are the developmental guys then. If you don't have any developmental guys then you better find some money for the portal.

What's the plan for DT next year RVP and ?

Zero DL commits for 2026. Part of the problem is that Bradden came in late and has been behind ever since, not all his fault though because the staff knew he was coming in late and apparently did little to fill the gap.

One positive on the DL, while young the DE's look promising.

OL again what's the plan?

Year four for Donnie, went to the portal for a OT and an IOL. I like Rocco but year 4 and they had to get an IOL? where is the development? Could have used that money elsewhere DT or RB. While talented Pritchett apparently has rocks for brains. Also at OT Corcoran and the "Six million dollar man" Teddy both who should have been recruited over long ago. IOL has seem to done pretty well considering how the OT have struggled.

OT for next year Pritchett?, Gottula, Knaak, maybe Brix? So year five for Donnie and back to the portal for one maybe two OTs. Hopefully some of the IOL are ready because Rocco and Luto are done or back to the portal there too.

2026 class with four commits, two inside guys, a tweener, and a high rated, high potential OT but has only played football for a couple years.

Nebraska should never be a learn on the job program. Appreciate Rhule wanting to mentor coaches but they shouldn't be the first line guys.
You say that but do you mean it? Wasn’t Oregon a learn on the job program for Lanning? IU was Cig’s first P4 coaching opportunity.

Both had sustained success at the college level - Lanning was a successful DC at a P2 program and Cig had years of success at JMU.

They weren't some assistant to the assistant OL/DL coach or secondary coach in the NFL
