Penn State fires Franklin

Yeah I don’t know how you don’t go all in on Cignetti. Don’t get me wrong, I love Rhule, but his MO is more program builder. He’s turned programs around, but hasn’t proven that he can sustain a high level of success.
There’s a few you go after before Rhule. Only reason our HC is being mentioned for this is because he played there, not because of his resume.

They hired Franklin after back to back 9 win seasons at and fired him, Rhule hasn’t even had one here yet.

Penn St went from 3rd rated 2027 this morning to unrated now

Gonna analyze this rationally
1) Rhule would take the job. Don't give me any bullshit about how much his wife loves Lincoln. Is his wife making $8 million a year? He brought up how much he loved Penn State in his introductory press conference here. If he's offered the job, he is gone.
I'm not positive about this. This is gonna be a REALLY tough gig at PSU. You basically have to win the CFP to make it a good hire.

Rhule has a front seat to the Frost debacle. I don't think he'd drop everything and move his family yet again to take this PSU job. Right now. I think he would maybe do it after 5-6-7 yrs here where say he got us to the CFP semis or something like that.

Leaving after 2.5 seasons after he just moved his young family cross country AGAIN and finally got them settled in new schools etc?? I don't believe that Rhule believes that PSU has better infrastructure in place. We have better facilities etc.

I wholeheartedly disagree that it would be an automatic YES if Kraft called him today. If Kraft called him today I think it would be an automatic no actually.

BUT

If Rhule really does want the PSU job, if that’s his dream job, then this might be the only chance he has to take it.

He knows he has to bet on himself and take the risk. It’s what he preaches.

Hmmm....seems like cope
Just not many cases where someone turns down a higher profile job at their alma mater because of expectations or family.
There's a reason the jobs with the highest expectations like Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, etc. are the hottest jobs and always get their pick of the litter.

Could be.

Remember though Rhule is a different dude. He had the opportunity to go to Oregon or Baylor in 2016 and he chose Baylor. He said he and his wife prayed about it and they felt God was pulling them to Baylor.

This is not your average HC status climber. He's a different kind of dude. My read on it is he wants to put another 5 yrs here to see where he can take Nebraska. Then he's done with coaching. OR maybe jump to PSU for one last gig before retirement/TV.

CFB is different now. HCs are going to be changed out every 5-7 yrs. He'll have another chance to coach PSU. The era of the Osborne/Bowden 25 yrs at a school is long gone. 5-7 yrs will be a successful tenure in most cases. Very good chance the next PSU coach is not there beyond 4 seasons.
