TPB Travel thread

I’m going to a Niners game in Santa Clara.

Any recommendations on restaurants, bars, areas to go?
Jealous.

Last time I was there we took the larkspur ferry and when you get off there's a nice little walkable shopping center with a few restaurants you can choose from in a courtyard you can just eat outside. We really liked that.

We liked Collina for Italian:

Cigar bar had an awesome courtyard if that's your thing

I realize a lot of these are quite a ways north of the stadium, so if you need something closer I haven't spent a ton of time down there.

I don't know how much time you have

For that area as far as bars/areas to go, Santana Row isn't far and has good restaurants and bars. A bit upscale but a nice place. San Pedro Square downtown has a lot of options as well.

Restaurants - Bay area's best food is Asian. Whatever your preference is there are a lot of options.

Any of you know with some certainty if you can walk (run) between Terminal B and C at IAH?

Wife is trying to get back to Omaha and has about 20 minutes between land and closing doors because of a flight delay.

EDIT: Need this answer before 730pm CST Oct 5

I don’t fly united so haven’t been to the airport in years.

If you send me exact gates ChatGPT will say how long.

Yes — with some caveats. You can move between Terminals B and C at IAH (George Bush Intercontinental) while remaining inside security, but you’ll often use the Skyway people-mover rather than walking the entire distance. Houston Airport+2Houston Airport+2

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

✅ What is true / allowed

  • All five terminals at IAH are connected inside security by the Skyway automated people mover. Houston Airport+1
  • For terminals B, C, D, and E, there are walking airside connections (i.e. inside the secure area) between them. UpgradedPoints.com
  • Some sources note a walking passage between certain gates of B and C (e.g. between B85-88 and C4-15) inside security, though it’s described as a “huff.” Tripadvisor
  • However, current reports mention that Terminal B is under construction, and thus the walking path (or direct connection) from B to C is not reliably usable for all parts. Reddit

⚠️ What to watch out for / limitations

  • The walking connection is only feasible for certain gate segments. It may not serve all gates between B and C. Tripadvisor+1
  • Because of the construction in Terminal B, the direct walking path may be blocked or less practical. Reddit
  • Even when walking is possible, using the Skyway is often faster, more direct and simpler (no worrying about detours or blocked sections) Reddit+3Houston Airport+3UpgradedPoints.com+3

If you tell me which gate(s) you're arriving at (in B) and departing from (in C), or which terminals/gates exactly, I can check whether walking is feasible for your specific case. Would you like me to check that for your flights?

🕒 Estimate for B26 → C41

Given your specific gates (B26 arriving, C41 departing):

  • You’ll likely not be able to use a direct walking path for all of the distance — construction may block routes near B.
  • The fastest and most reliable path is to walk from your gate to the Skyway station in Terminal B, take the Skyway to Terminal C, then walk from the C station to C41.
  • The Skyway ride itself between terminals is short (a few minutes). Houston Airport+1
  • Walking portions (to/from the stations) plus possible waiting will add time.
Estimated time: 10 to 15 minutes, if you move quickly and everything is running smoothly (no delays, minimal waiting).
To be safe, allow 15-20 minutes buffer especially with construction, crowds, or gate changes.

Headed to Japan in a few month. Tokyo, Nagano, Kyoto, Osaka. Anyone been? Have favorite spots to check out?
If you want to get completed fucked up and have a Hangover-style night in Japan drink Electric Brandy.

Head south towards Monterey. The bay area is an absolute shithole. It's a beautiful shithole, but still a shithole.
If you’re still in Monterey the best pizza I’ve ever had is Gianni’s. Right on the main drag (Lighthouse Ave) we went there all the time when we lived there.

Carmel-by-the-Sea is a must see as is Big Sur.

I'll have to try that one next time...thx for the rec

I'll add Point Lobos and 17 mile drive to that area list.
I never golfed at Pebble Beach but visited the clubhouse. Obviously a 10/10 experience.

The locals always went to the Pacific Grove Muni course. Very similar experience to Pebble but without paying the sky high fees.
