I’m not out on him, but I think at this point I’m good with saying we’re not going to have a typical ‘Rhule breakout year three’. This is a lower level bowl team that will likely finish with a winning record. Nothing more. This year. Through five games, we’re less put together than I’d have hoped. Not dramatically so, but it’s pretty obvious.

It’s possible the record improves to 8 or even 9 wins, but the team hasn’t improved dramatically from year two. We saw flashes on both sides of the ball yesterday, but saw some real slop through way too many stretches on offense and that includes maybe the worst single possession I’ve seen in 50+ years of watching Nebraska football. Special teams was good again, minus the dumbass fake punt when we could have pinned MSU back. It definitely flipped the momentum.

It’s obvious our overall staff is better than any Frost staff and better than year one for Rhule, or we’d have lost that game. Down 21-14, it was really a program trajectory moment for me. Continue to shit the bed and lose that game and we’re likely looking at repeat of ’24…or worse. It’s also obvious to me we have a ton of young talent that will help this program, if they’re here long enough to do it. Still have a couple of holdovers I can’t help but think would be better off on an FCS roster.

On the O line, I’m going to give them a slight pass for yesterday, even though it was hot garbage. New configurations don’t often look locked in right out of the gate. Dylan held the ball too long against man blitz most of the game, but I did see a lot of missed assignments that left guys free to hunt down Raiola. The empty or single back sets don’t work against that defense if you’re not getting rid of the ball quick.

We won. Didn’t look great or even good doing it, but we’re 4-1 with our first real road game coming up against Maryland team that is likely better than most on the board think. Figure out a way to win that game. That needs to be the only focus this week.

Long term goals need to remain just that. Long term. Rhule, hell, Saban or Osborne isn’t fixing what ails this team this year.

I think we can spend to get a few top guys. It's having the $$$ to build top lvl at more spots on the roster.

I think the biggest issue is we’re spending NIL money on guys who’re A) Not our first choice, but are available and will come here and B) Spending too much to retain guys who aren’t contributing at an NIL level yet

On the first issue, it’s a ‘Chicken & Egg’ thing when you’re trying to attract players to a program not currently winning, but Texas Tech just proved you don’t have to have the wins first. I know we don’t have that kind of money, but it’s obviously made Tech competitive.

On the second, everyone has to do this to a certain extent, but it’s harder for a middle of the pack program to keep what they’ve got without overspending. Back to the ‘Chicken & Egg’ thing. Win more and you likely pay less to keep marginal contributors on the rise, but in the interim, you’re going to have to bet right as to where you spend the money.

People need to think… am I about to have an emotional—not rational—reaction? Perhaps I step away.

I was so close to losing my shit when we fell down 21-14. Had some dandy loser-cries imagined up. But I held them to myself.

Emotional message boarding is not the way.
I’m convinced some of our fans eat their young

This seems like a pretty big overreaction to a 4-1 team with a single 3 point loss to Michigan.

Winning by 10 in 30mph wind is good, even if the game was ugly - good teams win ugly.

If you’re expecting to win conference games by 35 IDK what to tell you - different era and outside of OSU it’s not happening in the Big 10 regularly.

It’s not only the game yesterday, and I’m not expecting to win by 35 every game. I’m not sure how that’s your takeaway from my post.

There are obvious weaknesses this team has through five games that aren’t going away in 2025 and will impact our ceiling…downward. I’m still expecting 8 wins instead of the 9 I picked pre-season, because of those weaknesses.

I’m fine with winning ugly football games, but we’re going to lose some of those because we played too ugly.

Rhule turned the program around and slowly has it headed in the right direction. However, he has yet to have a signature win against a top ranked opponent and that has always been the knock on him. If we go into Happy Valley and Rhule gets his signature win against his Alma mater, then I’ll do the public shaming to get my sandy vagina tag removed.

We fucking won. How could you be out?

Yea the OL is bullshit.

Compare the culture from now vs Frost. This team would have quit early under that loser. They fought to the end and made plays!

In the press conference, I freaking loved McCullough's comments - "we play like brothers" (amongst other awesome comments). That is 100% Rhule's culture!! I do recall his halftime video pushing that these guys are all brothers!!

Love the vibe from the players and the love that they show each other to make each other great.

PSU sucks though. Even UCLA whooped em.

Let’s say we win 8 this year like you predict. Are you really going to be “out” on Rhule at that point? Keep in mind we’ve been a bottom 5-10 P4 team in terms of overall performance the last 10 years.

No. That’s not at all what I said.

If you read my original post on this, I stated I wasn’t out, but don’t believe we’re going to have his typical year three leap.

We finish 6-6 again, or even 7-5 and I’m not going to be happy at all and will seriously wonder if he’s the guy to take us to the next level….which right now is just winning a piddly 9 or 10 games a year like Pelini did.
