And now that I'm thinking of it, she has told me multiple times that Donovan is not happy with his NIL deal because he is making considerably less than other kids from his class and other members of the secondary...
That seems asinine based on the fact that he had zero tract record, but we might also need to pay Lateef 7 figures to sit on the bench next year, so what do I know? This is bonkers.

Based on Keona Davis and EJ, the staff is definitely willing to put their money where their mouth is even after a dude enters the portal.

Now, what if we crush it this year? Can you keep paying Nwaneri and K. Davis and give a bump to Shavers and Jones and Rex Guthrie and all the others? And that’s not even considering offense.

That’s how it should work. Guys earn pay bumps. Yes, we’ll have to give a bunch of guys raises next year. But you also have Spindler, C. Wright, Key and all the serious will be coming off the books. The money they were slotted will go to the next group that has earned it.

Jones is a redshirt freshman playing in a very veteran and senior-laden secondary. Of course he’s not making as much as the others. He’s been playing varsity football for all of three weeks now. He is playing well and earning a pay bump. That’s how it works. You play well, then you get a raise. You don’t get a raise to the level of all your veteran, proven teammates before you play a game. If he doesn’t understand that, then he’s not very smart.

I get it... but there's 17 dudes committed to FBS programs from in-state. There's more than 1 of those guys that can play for us.

In regards to your NIL stuff, ya, we don't have as much money there as others. I think that adds to my frustration... we need some guys that will take less to play for the team they grew up watching and stay close to their families.
Not sure if this link will work

Sure there’s a lot of kids committed to schools. There’s a lot of MEHHHH as well.
I get the vibe Jones is the only guy they wanted to committed elsewhere. And that’s ok.

Jett I don’t think there’s a need for. It’s worth taking Raiola if it means it keeps the Raiolas happy. Lateef seems legit then the following class you have another legit on paper kiss. Jett seems like a kid that would get lost then transfer tbh. No disrespect to him.

Just don’t look anyone and think oh yeah they are way better than what’s committed. Some might be a push. But whatever.

Plus IowaState, Kansas state, etc will keep coming into Nebraska because they are poorer than Nebraska and will take any easy scraps to build a class. The game has changed.

Couple things here. Lionsfan said he was upset about NIL because he's getting less than other players in his recruiting class not the senior future NFL guys. Secondly who the fuck knows what kind of bullshit is going on behind the scenes with other teams reaching out to him making offers and telling him what he wants to hear. This whole business of paying players above board is getting ten times dirtier than when it was under the table. Big shock right?

You’re right. I misread that. But no crap a player is going to get more if we’re competing with Alabama or Notre Dame for his signature.
Jones’ next biggest offer to NU was Wyoming, followed by a bunch of FCS schools. That’s just reality, Mr. Jones.

But my point remains. Earn it. Then receive it. I have no doubt he will be taken care of. But he should not be expecting week to week real-time adjustments to his compensation based on how he’s playing. Put together a good season, then reap the reward.

Agreed but he's a young man. When I was a young man I made lots and lots of immature and dumb decisions. Now that I'm old I just make lots of dumb decisions.

I don’t think it’s sunk in for most, that we will lose talented players. It’s going to happen no matter how well positioned our AD is, how Rhule strategizes, etc. This is NFL lite. Consider it a good problem to have. No one in P2 is trying to steal bunches of players from average teams.

The schools won't be able to bump everyone next year as they will be paying less than this year (the collectives emptied their bank accounts on the current season's team before the new rules took effect). Revenue sharing isn't big enough to fund it. The extra money for everyone will have to come from true NIL (or unreported under the table money).

I can't see us raising anyone who is sitting on the bench to seven figure revenue sharing, especially given we have a top 2027 QB coming in.

this is a pretty amazing recruiting summary of this weekend from BMunson:

  • The database no longer exists, but I am pretty sure (Kenndey) Brown is the first No. 1 overall recruit to visit Nebraska since OT Ofa Mohetau from Euless (Texas) Trinity in 2003.
  • From the 2027 class, Nebraska will host the No. 1, 23, 24, 28, 29, 35, and 57 from the Top 100.
  • Also from the 2027 class, Nebraska will host the 101, 149, 161, 184, and 200 from the Top 200.
Twelve of the 2027 top 200 on one day

Did Dylan not visit NU when he was ranked #1 Overall? Surprised by that if not.

So, I'm with you that there is a whole bunch of meh. Most of them are going to the right school/conference. What I'm getting at though, is there's more than one that needs to be committed here. Even though Jett would be our highest ranked recruit according to On3, I also understand that when you signed Dylan, Dayton was part of the deal. QB is always a tough recruiting spot anyway. But I'd take any lineman that commits to play for Bielema, he has a great history of evaluation at that spot.

With that said, I'm not sure what was going on the last few cycles, but the state of Nebraska had some extremely highly ranked recruits that frankly just weren't that good. Hall, McMorris, Coleman, Woods... the list could probably go on. But a guy like Ben Brahmer at Cockeye State now or Zane Flores I would want here, Devon Jackson and Ernest Hausman I would want here.

Your last paragraph is the crux of my issue though... Nebraska doesn't have the money to compete with the higher ups, so why not grab some of those guys mentioned above at a discount because they want to stay close to home? If money is tight, local talent is cheaper to retain than bringing in out of state talent.

He keeps it up he'll get paid after this year.

This is just my opinion and I don't know shit about fuck but I really think we DO have the money to compete with the higher ups. You don't have two of the highest paid WRs and one of the highest paid QBs in the sport without being able to pony up some dough

Nebraska doesn’t have the most money but they have enough money to play ball and get better players.
Theres no reason fill up a class with low level in state players while having a race to the bottom with Cockeye state

Wasn’t Ernest Hauserman here and then he decided to transfer to Biff's Butthole Surfers?

And Zane Flores may be fine but seems like we’re doing just fine in the QB room, no?

I agree there have been a handful of Nebraska guys who succeeded at other programs that we didn’t try in earnest to grab but it sure seems like there have been a lot more who have disappointed and taken up roster space over the last decade+.
