I'm pretty sure ESPN's win probability for Nebraska - the one posted on their matchup page for the game - was > 50% the entire game and never dipped below like 70% on Cincy's final drive. Feels like two models by ESPN saying completely opposite things.

ESPN’s updated FPI still has Texas #1 after losing and trotting out Hellen Keller at QB so I think it’s safe to assume their models are dogshit

Here’s what I do know and like to remind myself when RS…er, tPB goes off it’s predictable deep end even after every win…

During the run in the 90’s…you know when we’re were the most dominate team in college football that won 60 games and 3 Nattys…the boards were pretty much the same ridiculous ‘yeah but’s’ and ‘Should have done X, Y, or Z’

Nebraska fans will never allow a win to be a good win. It’s just the DNA.

I guess it’s what makes us great.

• We controlled the game. Yes, their running game and QB scrambled like fuck, but we controlled the game. We took what they gave us and while we should have scored more points, we held a very good offensive team to 17 points.

Bolded one of the biggest issues I have with this week's performance. The Frost era was loaded with games where we put up tons of yards and on paper should have had tons of points, but in reality we often struggled to finish the job. Maybe that's not a concern for you, but it probably should be.

In fact, the 44 against Wisconsin is the only game we’ve scored more than 20 in during that stretch. All other games are exactly 20, except for Cockeye, which was the low water mark at 10.

Not that it was better before him. It’s just not getting better with him at the helm either.

I don’t disagree. I’m just saying that what we saw in terms of scoring was of a piece with last season. It would’ve been nice to see improvement.

I’m not sure I’d go that far.

I do think Holgorsen was very conservative against Cincinnati and likely knows they’re going to have to be more creative to score points against Michigan.

I meant ‘we’ figuratively, as I’m obviously not playing or coaching, and yes, they beat Cincinnati.

I’m not downgrading the Cincinnati win, merely stating that we can’t be a repeat of 2024 and consider this year a success.

It’s great that Nebraska beat Cincinnati week one and should go into the Michigan game 3-0. After that, there looks to be only one more ‘Gimmie’ on the schedule, and that’s game eight against Northwestern. Michigan, Penn State and USC all have better rosters on paper than we do, though USC is really in prove it mode for me. That leaves five games that could look an awful lot like some version of the Cincinnati game. P4 or not, Cincinnati isn’t a great football team. We won’t know how good they are or we are for that matter until the season is over.

That’s why I said ‘We have to produce’ and it goes well beyond a nice game one win.

We seem to be better with ball security and consistency, but still find a way to have a penalty kill a drive or bog down inside (and sometimes outside) the red zone and settle for a FG. Thursday we had a couple of drives where Dylan took the check down and he was short of the line to gain. Some of that was what was given and a misguided hope that the receiver could make something happen after the catch, but I do think some of it was his relative youth and inexperience. I don’t know if he’s processing like 'I know I need 8 yards, so taking the 3 yard guy likely isn’t going to get it done.’ yet. I will give Cincinnati credit in that we rarely had a completion that didn’t take almost immediate contact.

Let's see where Michigan is after the Oklahoma game. The Wolverines just struggled at times against a New Mexico team with a new coaching staff, 48 new players and 20 new starters.
