Can someone way more enlightened than me help me understand why people are losing their shit over the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle commercial? I wouldn't have given it a second thought had I not seen all the hurt and outrage on social media.

So lets say, theoretically, AE followed up on the "great jeans (genes)" line of advertising with a smoking hot black, latina, asian, would that insult everyone as well. Sorry, still kind of lost in all this. I'm an old, white, curmudgeon, admittedly, though. Probably my problem.

No - we both know that would not insult anyone. The fact that she is white is the critical factor, because the nazis were white. (The people who fought the nazis were also white, but this can be ignored.)

Simple formula
a reference to a white person having good genes = nazi = bad
a reference to a non-white person having good genes = not nazi = not bad

It isn't your problem. It's their problem because of their gigantic inferiority complexes. If certain people aren't being catered to 100% of the time, they start having "anxiety" or whatever other bullshit term they are using now. The whole thing is ridiculous.

If AE was smart, they would've released multiple ads simultaneously with hot women of different races. But these companies aren't smart.

People are looking for outrage where there shouldn't be any, but it's 2025 and if you're releasing a provocative ad campaign you have to be prepared for this type of thing.

Because ugly women are jealous of her. But they don’t want to say they are jealous, so they’re playing the race card. @Mavsker explained it pretty well. But the genesis of it all is ugly women that don’t like a hot white chick saying she has “good jeans/genes” even if it was in jest and a play on words.

Summary… Ugly bitches are showing us how petty and jealous they can be.
