Breaking Pit Bulls = Santa’s Killers

Yeah good eye! she's had a mast cell tumor on her side removed, a couple random bumps, and two CCL surgeries. She's thirteen. It's my wife's dog and is now attached to my hip. My wife rescued her as a pup from a guy that beat his next dog to death. He also had a bigger pitbull that beat up on ours when she was young.

According to my wife our dog is great with small dogs and children but can freak out on bigger dogs. I haven't seen any of this though. We keep her separated from potentially dangerous situations because of her breed, peoples attitudes, and how she was abused.

She's normally very passive. My wife had a home invader kick in her door once and the dog hid in the closet. Once she did get loose and ran down the driveway to greet a young shiba, by the time I caught her she was super calm and mostly interested in smelling the shibas butt more than anything else. On a normal day she's just trying to cuddle as close to me as she can. I've never personally seen her be violent in the 7 years I've known the dog, but we don't take her in dangerous situations just in case.

I'm going to be inconsolable when she dies.

It will never stop unless you grandfather in the existing pit bulls, then outlaw future ownership beyond a certain date moving forward. Translation - if a purebred pit is seen or found past a certain date, they're euthanized and the owner is jailed. I realize that leaves open cross breeds, but it's better than nothing.

Can you imagine how you'd feel if a family member was attacked by one and severely injured or died. I'd be so fucking angry.

Owners of pits sort of remind me of the guy who's 6-year old fell overboard on the cruise ship. Yeah, won't happen to me...until it does.

Pit bull is not a breed it’s a group of different breeds:

In the United States, the term is usually considered to include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and sometimes the American Bulldog, along with any crossbred dog that shares certain physical characteristics with these breeds.

American bulldog for example is a very safe breed more closely related to mastiffs and English bulldogs. The pit bulls you see classified as pit bulls in the news are typically the American Pit Bull Terrier, American XL bully.

I have an American bull dog sheepasoodle mix that I recused that is a sweetheart and got all its physical looks and pretty much all its characteristics from the sheepadoodle. I would probably get an American bulldog again. All dogs are different but I would not own one of the other breeds

I truly feel it’s how the animal is raised and the temperament in the dog as well as in the bloodline. This is General and he is our 7.5 YO American Bully; which are typically bred with American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier. He is a full ESA for the Mrs, and he pretty much goes everywhere with us. If kids don’t pet him he tends to whine and cry, he definitely steals the show! We hear pretty regularly how our vet, and boarding facility have requests from staff to work with General.

I grew up with Rottweilers all my life (so I’m use to the stares and words under people’s breath), my wife on the other hand grew up with Labs. We typically use General to introduce people to dogs in general, or at least to the breeds that might publicly be deemed “scary”. We have 5 nieces/nephews and they can all walk him on a loose lead, and all he does is just go with the flow. Typically you’ll find him either on the bed, couch, or the deck (being a baked potato 🥔 🤣).

Well, then euthanize the group of different breeds or set parameters. I'd indicated or referred to them as cross breeds, but your explanation sounds scientific. Big picture, set parameters on what would be outlawed.

Said every owner of American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and sometimes the American Bulldog -- EVER

I’m not here to argue just trying to bring light to the other wide of it as well. I like breeds that go against the social norm, as I like to advocate for the breeds that are most often misunderstood.

Totally understand. Sometimes I tell that to my siblings about another relative (often misunderstood) and they look at me like I have three eyes.

Every one of these breeds and dogs aren't inherently bad. However, how many times has someone mentioned that the dog was very well-trained with an owner that was familiar with the breed - and they suddenly became unhinged.

IDK the answer because it'll never be unlawful to own one. You can't just outlaw everything, then we'll all be stupid liberals...lol
