What's Your "If Only" Husker History Change?

Would've been interesting, but it seemed like Bo and Eichorst were just personally completely unable to connect whatsoever haha, just polar opposites who were bewildered by each other's very existence. Even if Eichorst gave Bo better resources, they still probably would have been side-eyeing each other the entire time. Bo was nuts in plenty of ways as we all know, but Eichorst was like an alien haha they were never going to work well together.
That's true. And let's be honest, Eichorst was hired by Perlman to fire Bo. So it really needed to be a different AD.

As a talking point, it's pretty interesting to me what he refused to give Bo. Bo asked him for "2 or 3 recruiting staffers to help with logistics" because Ross Els was our Linebacker Coach, Special Teams Coordinator, and Recruiting Coordinator. Think how thin we were running, and how much more efficient we could have been if Els was carrying all of those duties. Bo basically had Jamrog running special teams towards the end just to help take a load off Els. When Eichorst told him no, he had a meeting with boosters asking for help with private planes. Terry Joseph who had came from Tennessee was absolutely disgusted that he had to drive an hour to Omaha, get there early enough to go through TSA and fly Southwest to get to Texas or wherever and had burned 2.5 hours before takeoff. Where when he recruited for Tennessee he went to the local airport, plane left right when he got there, and it was a direct flight.

Longer story out there, but that's when we started getting more private jet access. Despite some of our coaches almost ruining the private jet situation a little bit prior to this.

Absolutely nuts. Again, for better or worse, the Bo era was so interesting and I don't understand how he managed to win so many games while dealing with behind the scenes shenanigans like this, being a maniac behind the scenes at times himself, and not being able to come even close to replicating his success anywhere else after NU...

If Dirk or somebody like that ever wanted to write a book that would appeal to a very tiny amount of people, they could probably tell a pretty fascinating tale about that time.

I mean... Gas Can has written two books that appeal to a very tiny amount of people. It appears they have time, despite being told how busy they are.

Interesting is a good word to describe Bo's tenure. In Bo's last season, I remember them recruiting a QB in Texas that moved from like Sweden and was the JV QB because he couldn't play varsity yet. That's when I knew he was cooked and checked out. That player, can't remember his name, went on to play TE at North Texas.

Hahaha oh yeah I remember that too. So bizarre.

That was the same year that Joe Burrow was the Ohio player of the year and wanted to come to Nebraska

An old one, but Emmitt Smith was the OG of HS recruit signing day hijinks when he wore NU gear to his announcement and picked Florida.

I don't think it would have necessarily changed the trajectory of the NU program at the time since they had no trouble running with the backs they had, but Emmitt's production would have been much greater at NU in the 80's than Florida.

Barry Sanders and Marshall Faulk were both there for the taking
