Week 1 Depth Chart vs UTEP + Game Week Notes, Odds & Ends

Cam & Princewill might be a couple of the best second-string defensive players in the country.

The glass half-empty angle to that is that their total buy-in & work ethic may not yet be where it should be.
They will rotate in a lot like last year. These coaches really like to have a good rotation going. We can go two or even three deep on the defense.

I think you will start to see more rotation on the offense this year too. Rhule was even talking about more rotation on the OL in the spring.

1. Our starting fullback last year is a starting receiver this year
2. Not many ORs compared to other years
3. Who the heck is Derek Branch
4. Malachi needs to step up. Barney will see the field before him this year
5. Our Special Teams scares me
Rhule addressed Malachi in the presser. Said he's further down right now because he's coming back from a groin injury.

I think there is an excessive amount of OVERREACTION about the Tackle position. This is the depth chart for UTEP. I think if Nebraska had to play Colorado or even a Big Ten team this weekend, they would consider some other options or shifting some dudes if Corcoran were to go down.

Secondly, Seagren isn't the scrub people think. Is he inexperienced? Absolutely. But the dude is extremely athletic and turned down the option to play TE at South Dakota State before walking on at Nebraska.

You may be right. But that last sentence is concerning to say the least. We’re supposed to feel better since a TE walked on to play tackle here?

My immediate thought

Do you know how many former FCS TEs have turned into multi-year Offensive Tackles at the NFL Level?

Its actually more than the number of former 5-Star HS tackles. I'm not saying Seagren is future NFL All-Pro. But I do know the kid has a freakish body at a hair under 6'7 with abs and an 84 inch wingspan that would've been 2nd at the 2024 NFL combine.

He's taller, bigger, faster, stronger, and more athletic than Corcoran.

You’re going to need to post proof here. I have a very hard time believing the number of fcs tight ends playing tackle in the NFL, is higher than the number of HS five stars…. I still think Seagren is way better than people give him credit for.
