glad both farniok’s are gone. one is 5’11 255 and the other could pass block oldred

One will likely get drafted this year and the other will likely end up starting on a P5 bowl bound team.

Every time AM or any QB has to use every inch of their catch radius to field the snap you might as well plan on a 3rd and long arm punt as your ultimate outcome.

That said, I hope Cam figures it out, but when dudes who never play the position can step in and snap better than your coaches love child, then we have larger issues to deal with.

I struggle with your take on Will Farniok. It's clear this staff did everything it could to avoid him ever taking meaningful snaps at center. He was certainly never going to beat out Jurgens. Argue with that over the snapping issue? Sure, maybe. But they shifted Matt Farniok over him when they needed to last year. It seems pretty clear they would have played guys like Hixson or even Piper there above him next year.

Are they just that wrong in their assessment of him?

Who's to say Wills position coach didn't plan on starting him this past year at one point or another? Perhaps he did and a head coach stepped in. "Staff" may be a big word.

Yeah, I'm aware of the chatter that Austin wanted to bench Jurgens. It seems like the backup option was Matt, rather than Will, though. The chatter around backup center this coming year focused on guys like Hixson. It just seems like there was no smoke that anyone really wanted Will Farniok playing center or anywhere on the OL.

Mine is limited to the tidbits I get from RSS, Nufan and @thE kErnEl and I actually tried to watch Matt this year closer to see if all the Farniok hate was warranted. I concluded that yes MF had whiffs and blown calls but he also was down field on about any long run you see a highlight on and I also bet (but don't know for sure) that he had more pancakes than any OL this & last year.

So yeah, I'm probably a fanboy, but I also remember the times when we only started Juniors and Seniors and nearly all those guys were RS at some point and I could see WF and Cam on the same OL some day being effective. Those were the days we pounded fuckers well into the 4th Q and I would love to see us back there.

Carry on,

Will was in line for starting at a couple different weeks this past season. I take your point and from what I understand, Will was very much scheduled this past year to start at Center...took all the reps one week and then his brother Matt was moved in. Position coach wanted one thing, head coach another.

I have no problem with the Dakota guys being proud of and rooting for their guys. It totally makes sense to me. It's great that Nebraska has done so well in attracting the top talent from that state recently. We need to continue that.

I think we'll get a more definite sense on whose impression of Will Farniok was closer when we find out the transfer destination.

The problem is that the portal is already pretty packed and Will has almost no tape to show any school. This almost guaranteed a step down. I don't think he was the answer at center. Jurgens sure as hell isn't if he can't snap, but the shift of Matt over tells you they just don't rate Will

So a walk on, a 3rd string OL and a QB that started 2 games and three 6 ints is transferring.

About 10 seconds ago RSS would be telling us this is what big boy programs do to trim the fat. Now I’m guessing it’s the apocalypse.
Yes and no boot. I think in a vacuum, you're probably right, but the pattern of losing guys who Frost publicly markets as essential to the program or who are very well liked by their teammates, like a captain, are an issue. Given that Luke apparently wasn't encouraged to move on, it seems more concerning than routine fat trimming, imo

Probably right. Frost said too much publicity to keep the kid happy. And that makes this look bad.

But I still think if this kid’s last name wasn’t McCaffrey then there would be a lot less trepidation. He was fast and could’ve been a guy in the slot. But backup QBs transfer all the time.
Warner and Farniok...also back ups.

At some point though, you need your backups. I think if McCaffery hadn't shown flashes of playmaking ability as a runner people would care less, but Frost/Lubick didn't really utilize that down the stretch so who can blame him? You get sold the idea of playing for an offensive Ferrari and then the coach comes to pick you up in a Pontiac Fiero you're probably right to be concerned.

I like the car analogy, imagine when they actually turn the key and a piston explodes out of the hood because it misfires so early and often.
