Twitter This is no way to treat our future HC's wife!

LOL

It was a little reckless of her to post that. She was kind of implying that a restaurant in downtown Omaha was shocked to see two Mexican people. Like they've never seen that before.

This restaurant sits on the one street block that is the most heavily tourist block area in Omaha, probably the most heavily tourist in the entire state .... yeah, I'm sure they're super racist.
I agree with you.

Wife and I just went to a restaurant in Hawaii that had 90% of the tables open and the hostess looked me in the eye and goes "that'll be a 45 min wait." I laughed bc I thought she was joking. But we came back in 45 min and every table had been taken and we got our table like she said.

Not everything is racist. Hawaii very short staffed across all the islands. And the open tables were reserved. Restaurants are in a weird weird spot now, that doesn't mean everyone that works there is racist.

I don't think many thought I was being serious when I mentioned staffing shortage earlier. 😆

Same thing happened to us in Omaha. I looked around and thought WTF, half this place is empty. Then she said we only have staff to serve part of the restaurant. The thing is, I cannot remember the actual restaurant, but it was sometime this spring.

FTR, I'm pink and my wife is white. Our kids are brown. GBR

She said they didn't offer a wait time. Are you calling Mickey's wife a liar?
Honestly she was probably just having a bad day. I follow her in Twitter and she has implied that Lincoln is a culture shock for her and her family. I assume she means that she is used to being around more people of color in AZ and Baton Rouge.

Problem is, that heavy tourist block in the Old Market is the least likeliest place in a 300 mile radius to have a racist restaurant encounter. I don't think she realizes where she was. If she's out in some backwoods Deliverance town in EBF then yeah, sure.

I think it's 50,000 times more likely that she just encountered a poorly trained restaurant host. I find it very unlikely that someone working at that location would outwardly refuse to seat someone just because they're of Mexican descent.

First brown people that downtown Omaha restaurant has ever seen i’ve heard. Right in the heart of the tourism district. Damn racists.
Yep... there's no Mexican people at all in the urban core of Omaha. None. I'm sure this hostess who works at a restaurant in the Omaha urban core had never met a Mexican person and was uncomfortable and decided to act in a discriminatory AND illegal way to Ms. Joseph.

This sounds very realistic and highly probable.

Mickey Joseph's wife went to Twisted Fork in the Old Market with her brother. I believe that there was a large party that arrived around the same time and I'm not sure if the other party joked that they weren't with them, or that they could sit at another table, or if it was a TF employee, but between that and them telling her that they would have to wait because they had no tables available (she says she could see open tables), she went to the "they didn't serve us because we're not white" card. I'm guessing that she realized that she may have jumped to conclusions, as many people were responding saying how short-staffed TF is and just because there are open tables doesn't mean they have the staff to take care of them all.
That shit happens all the time since Covid. I’ve been in restaurants less than half full with 10-30 minute wait lists.

Me too. Just always been given the wait time instead of being told to kick rocks though
I went into a BWW recently and they had all these low top tables and booths open and I had my two young kids and they said we can seat you at a high top that’s it. I said why can’t we get a booth or low top and they said we can’t give you one with no real reason. I told them to fuck off and left. On a prior visit they also did this weird shit of bringing out our main entrees at different times. I said where is my wife’s meal? They said this is the way we do it now. I was like wtf. I’m never going back there. Since Covid shit has just got weird.

At that restaurant in that location, on a Friday night, it’s highly possible she wasn’t getting in at all that night.

Edited to add: based on my experience, I’d bet some coin there were multiple minority groups dining in there that night as well.
