Didn't know Colandrea was actually in play for us until very recently, but he would be my choice by a significant margin for 2026.

Minchey looked like he had upside and could have solidified the position for multiple years if he was as advertised, but a guy who hasn't really seen game action is more of a gamble, and I'd strongly prefer an upperclassman for a key season like this.

TJ can keep developing and hopefully take some big strides by 2027.

Colandrea was my top pick all along. I don’t know that I posted it here. But @Faux Sean Callahan can verify.

Minchey hasn’t started a game. We know nothing about him other than Notre Dame people said he almost won the job.

Production over potential at this point.
The thing I love about this is it bucks the trend. When NU FB has a choice between NFL measurables vs smaller guy w/ skillsn& heart......we pick the NFL measurables like 99% of the time. Then skip over the little guy - who signs with our rival and destroys us later.

That's part of the reason I loved the Emmet Johnson recruitment in 2021. Undersized guy but with killer attitude & good skillset. We almost never pick those guys and then they go to Cockeye, Wisconsin, KState etc .

That's why I love the Colandrea pick up. Give me the guy who I know can play, even if he's undersized/smaller conference etc.

Minchey potentially has a higher ceiling (and lower floor since we don’t really know what you’re getting) than Col. He also would have potentially been a multi year starter and bridged the gap nicely to Trae. I’m guessing that’s why Nebraska initially wanted him first.

I do think with Col as QB1 the odds of a better 26 are slightly higher overall. We really could use an injection of some veteran leadership.

my other guy I was hoping for was Jaden Craig. Thought he was really good at Harvard
Ball knower. Craig will have TCU in a bowl game

This will definitely get revisted in december so i will go on record and I hope I'm wrong. Not going to be a downer going forward but this is a thread specifically devoted to seeing how takes age so I'm only going to say these things once

1. Chiles will thrive in Chip's offense but it wouldnt have worked here
2. Colandrea will be a turnover machine and be a top 5 most infuriating player in school history
3. I wanted Minchey but UK is the best possible situation for him
4. I think Lagway is going to have a great year next year in the right situation. Lost in the conversation about him is the lack of reps he got due to injury in the spring which I think was THE contributing factor to his play this year. Florida pushed him back when they should have portaled someone else in for the year. I don't think Nebraska was the place to get him healthy

My Colandrea comp is a poor man's Drew Lock

Colandrea significantly reduced the amount of turnovers he had in 2025. He had a 23/9 TD to pick ratio.

Looking at his rushing numbers, he had almost 900 yards on the ground if you adjust for sacks on roughly 130 carries. He fumbled 4 times.

I hate turnovers as much as the next guy. And it’s fair to say he made some stupid ass plays that caused turnovers that shouldn’t have happened.

But it’s more than fair that those numbers trended in the right direction this year.

If you look at his 2025 numbers, it’s not fair to call him a turnover machine. One step further, we did not have a lost fumble this year from a running back and only 1(?) from a QB. It’s fair to say that his numbers can trend down further as was the case in 2025.

Ya know this whole program needs some juice going into 2026. Colandrea might just be the piece to make that happen. Big 10 is a different animal as we all know so he's probably going to look really stupid at some times, and like an absolute genius at other times. Dare I say what 2019 Adrian was supposed to be? Minus the Heisman talk, I'm not doing any of that.

Just my two cents here:
Chiles is a good fit for Chip but think the game has passed him by as a play caller, personally. Kinda like Holgs actually. Colander will be electric and fun to watch but also maddening at times with turnovers. Kinda think Lagway is who he is at this point.

What I’ll hold Rhule and Holgo accountable for is giving Dylan the latitude to change the plays as much as he did. He changed the play almost 1/3 of the time. I don’t know that we’ve seen an accurate depiction of what Holgo is at Nebraska. It’s definitely Rhule and his fault. But I’m not ready to say the game has passed him by.

Just glad we don't constantly have to suck DR off at every press conference. There has to be some division on the team just because of that shit. Hopefully Rhule can get the team back together

Shit I forgot that one

I'm not sure how realistic it was though lol

Honestly, before the injury against USC and dad’s melt down post UCLA, I’d have been shocked if he wasn’t back and starting in ’26.

If he doesn’t get hurt and plays the remainder of ’25, we might have won one more game. Him bailing would have been less likely IMO because the ‘Lateef is God’ party doesn’t happen post UCLA and he still thinks he’s the savior.

If I never see an intentionally under thrown ball to draw PI again, I'll die happy

That's fair. It is somewhat hard to tell. In general, the closest thing we had to an identity on offense was shit which makes me think it had more to do with the offense we were running than Dylan's audibles. Would love to be proven wrong next season.

I know its going to be a unpopular but I bet on the kid a lot when he was at virginia and then again this year so I've seen a lot of Colandrea

He threw some of the absolute worst yolo picks Ive seen in the past three years at UVA and a few at UNLV. 9 interceptions at UNLV is higher than a kid should have with his talent and that competition. Didn't even play a P4 school if you exclude UCLA who was the worst P4 squad in the country by a good margin at that time

He doesn't process well and forces throws often. I thought he pressed too hard when he handled adversity. He didn't have a lot of contested catches (good) but had a lot of yardage on wide ass open free runners or scramble drill plays. Haven't seen him make tight window throws often. I think he's a bit more of a fumble risk due to his size and I worry about the RB room

That said there is serious upside. I just feel that its safe to bet against that upside being realized given the past eight years of what I've watched. He will thrive if he commits to structure and if things are schemed up well - jury is out given rhetoric around the offense, audibles, and playcalling. If he has to game manage I worry. My take has more to do with Nebraska than Colandrea. He's just a volatile kid with moderate upside who will have to play really close to his ceiling to get a return on investment.

Telling that Tennessee, FSU, and GT were in on him. He's got a lot of Haynes King to him but that kid was larger and a warrior. Took a lot of heat. I could see him getting beat up with that much usage and I think Haynes was a better processor with a slightly better arm. FSU would have been plug and play - Castellanos is a great comp but Colandrea is a better runner. He'd be there if they were putting chips in for '26. Tennessee would have been a great destination. Great scheme fit. They lost games this year because Aguilar couldn't game manage and they need a better year to stay off the hot seat but their base offense is perfect for him

Another comp I thought of since, munchkin Josh Allen (Wyoming)
