Sure there is. They’re one of the 7 best non conference champions. You might not like it but it’s the truth. Be mad at the field size if you want, but one of those teams absolutely should have been in over fucking SMU.
No team that went 5 and 3 in their conference should expect to be in the playoff unless they're winning a conference championship or there are no other P4 teams to fill a slot. SEC teams play 8 conference games. Half their teams should have one more loss. It's absolute garbage that they are playing on a completely different standard and yet their three loss conference teams are "clearly better" than other conferences one loss teams. They had their chance. It's called the regular season.

It's really easy to say all these SEC teams would be winning these games when they're not even playing in them. Sending five Big Ten and five SEC teams to a 12 team playoff would be the end of college football as we know it. Why people continue to advocate for it is beyond me?

They’re better than SMU. Full stop. There is no debate. Stop it, you’re making yourself look foolish.

It will go to a 16 team playoff soon and after that it will go to 24-32 teams and bowls will be gone.
I don't think so. I see a B1G/SEC only playoff in the future with only 8 teams. I think it's to big the way it is there are a lot of teams in the playoff that don't deserve and have no shot at winning the title.

SMU would have been middle of the pack in the B1G, depends on the schedule where they would have actually ended up. Conference is just to big and needs to be broken up into divisions or pods. 3 6 division pods would be nice right now. Take the 3 pod winners and the next best team for a 4 team conference playoff and have the winner play the SEC champion for the title.

I could be wrong but I see it like the NCAA basketball tourney. More games will bring in a lot more revenue. I’ll be shocked if they stop at 12. I might be off with 32, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we see that many teams someday.

Yeah just for money purposes they'll never scale back the games. 12 teams is the floor only question is how high can they push the ceiling.

Nobody from the ACC should have made the playoff. We’ll see how ASU fares, but not really sure the Big 12 should have a team in either. That’s just this year, though, and I am sure eventually things will even out
I think there's wisdom in this post. Like everything though I'm sure there'll be overreaction.

Reseeding after the first round (like the NFL does) would fix a lot of these problems.

I agree that would help, but the CFB should abandon their NFL-style playoff completely. I liked the way this article lays it out.

Link: College Football Playoff blowouts show the seeding for the tournament is the format's biggest flaw

The College Football Playoff committee ranked Boise State (No. 9) and Arizona State (No. 12) ahead of Clemson (No. 16) but gave them first-round byes over higher-ranked teams like Texas, Penn State, and Notre Dame. Similarly, in the NFL, 12-2 teams like Detroit and Minnesota may play on the road, while weaker division winners like Tampa (8-6) or Atlanta (7-7) host games, highlighting flaws in both systems.

Hopefully they fix it going forward.

First off the NCAA has nothing to do with the playoffs. The B1G and SEC will want more money, two ways to do that, more games, or cut out teams from any other conference. I just don't see more games being added, the calendar is screwed up the way it is, I don't see teams or programs wanting to extend the season any more, if anything get it over closer to the end of the year, for transfers, recruiting, still playing football when the next school term starts is just a mess.

I just see it going the other way, 2 weeks of conference playoffs, a week off then the title game. Wouldn't be surprised to see the bowls adjusted as well with more of a B1G/SEC challenge type thing. Try and get everybody's season over closer to the same time.
