What if Frost accepted the job at Florida?

I was just thinking about this earlier this morning. What would have happened if Frost stayed in Florida and became UFs head coach instead of coming here? Would he had been successful there? Who would we have hired and would they have done better?

Would have depended on speed, talent, and QB like at UCF, if not he would have got canned when Mullen did.

Hard to tell who we would have hired considering Moos did nothing but hand the contract to Frost.

In that podcast where Bruce Feldman talked about Frost missing the meeting in Ireland, he made an interesting argument about why Frost worked at UCF but not NU. He said O'Leary was an asshole and very strict, and the players had chafed at that. Frost came in with a looser style and the guys responded and he got them to do what he wanted.

But when he came to NU, he stepped into a situation where the previous coach had already been loose. Frost didn't have the skill set to run something with more discipline, so he plopped his loose culture on top of one that was already loose and the thing became a disorganized mess.

So I don't know what he would've stepped into at UF. They always have talent. McElwain seems like an asshole, but also a fucking weirdo, so I have no idea what sort of culture was there. But maybe what he came into would have made a difference.

With or without Frost's staff from UCF, I doubt he would have lasted at Florida more than a few years.

Who would have replaced Frost if he went to Florida? Mike Gundy wanted the job then, but was never contacted.

Was anyone contacted besides Frost?

Maybe Gundy would have been if Frost took the job at Florida.

I think he would have had to put in more effort as TO & the TC wouldn't have been there to protect him. I think he also would have been much more focused on football because he wouldn't have had bad influences like Matty D, Gerrod, Party Boosters, Strasburg, Carpenter...... pushing the party scene on him instead of concentrating on coaching.

He would’ve won there, a fantastic recruiting base along with a ton of momentum in that state. They also would’ve made him hire a better staff immediately.

He also wouldn’t have had everyone watching his every move knowing who he was so he could go out in public once in a while .

There was the article about a year ago which said UF officials "determined Frost wasn't ready for a job this big". So unless I'm mistaken, they never actually gave him an offer. It sounds like he interviewed so poorly with them they realized what they were getting into. That could be revisionist history, bc others are saying UF DID offer him the job with the caveat that he dump his entire staff. Which he was never gonna do.

ANYWAY personally I think Frost would have been fired after yr 2 (or even during it). I think Frost's poor morals and work ethic would have shown up under the pressure of UF.

The fascinating thing is what if he actually caught a few good bounces in those 2 years and made a conference championship game etc. Then how long would he last there? I have about 95% certainty that his poor leadership would have exposed him at some point. I don't see any scenario of him making it more than 3 yrs there. I just don't think the guy is a leader. Shouldn't be a HC.

Wasn’t the rumor that the Fl ad was not very impressed with Scott and his organization?
