What can we do at WR?

How much is WR and how much is it QB play? H2 had the best game passing so far and he was 14/24 for 158 and 2 tuddys. Fidone was 6 targets 1 drop 4/42/1 of that. RB's 3/29.

So throws to WR's were 7/15 for 87. 3 drops by Kemp. 5 bad throws by H2.

Just not a lot of opportunity to even make plays. Washington is good. 4 targets 2 catches. Alex 1 target went for 33 yards. Tommie Hill needs to quite getting any targets imo but his 1 target wasn't a catchable ball. Fleeks 1 target went for 4 yards.
I think you would need to have all 22 film or be in the stadium to really tackle that. My memory of going to games in the past is that it's usually pretty easy to tell if WRs are open and QBs aren't seeing them or if a QB just has no where to go with the ball

Firs and foremost, they need to figure out how many, if any, of these guys are worth a shit

In case you took a blow to the head, that's 7 freshmen WRs and then they have 4 more committed this year in McMorris, Hall, Barney, and Clark. So that's a grand total of 11 dudes already
This class is a fantastic class. I know people want results now, but I really have no worries at WR after this year. 4 of these guys have already gotten buzz at various points since coming to campus. That's a plus for those keeping score.

I'd probably like to see us add one or two more proven guys in the portal, mostly for leadership purposes if nothing else, but I'm not a dumbass and belive the room is bare.

Didn’t the ball that Fidone “dropped” get deflected right before it got to him?

Kemp would be great if we could force a defense to play off in zone the whole game so he can sit in space

Teams have been fine playing up or in man and I don't see HH instilling any real fear in them

We absolutely need to reinforce the WR room at the end of this year. Marcus Washington and Billy Kemp will exhaust their eligibility as seniors. From the juniors you have Garcia-Castenada returning from a major injury and Joshua Fleeks who seems underwhelming to say the least. (Note: I have him as a junior, but possibly a senior with a COVID year in his pocket...not sure)

Then we have Sophomore Bullock who is at best a serviceable #3 or #4. Followed by a host of true freshmen, none of which have shown they are ready to step up and even if they did we would need 3 of them to do so, which doesn't seem likely.

The transfer portal seems like the answer to our problems, but who in the fuck are we gonna attract with our pathetic passing attack and having a #1 & #2 QB who are considered "Runners" not passers? We ain't gonna be able to land game changers or anyone considered top shelf. So what do we do?

Do we scour the JUCOs for some bounce backers or overlooked guys? That seems bleak. I also highly doubt our incoming freshman class will have anyone capable. (See this year's)

What do we do?
We should move some extra running backs to WR.

They are going to be very young.... Athletic as fuck, but very young.

I have been told good things from Doss, Lloyd and Coleman. Not saying this is damning to any of the other players, but just what I have been told.

This is JMO, but I don't know why you wouldn't be portal heavy at WR. It would raise your hit rate and allow you to take more scholarship linemen. I wouldn't bring a freshmen in unless I was really excited about him and thought he could play early.

This comment from TV Color guys commentating on Nebraska games always makes me chuckle a bit, "There is just nowhere to throw the ball as Nebraska's receivers are getting no separation."

I'm like, Nebraska doesn't have a QB who can consistently complete a pass more than 15 yards downfield anyway. What the fuck does it matter?

Not to pile on Kemp here but did he look less explosive to anyone else? If he’s our best weapon in space right now that is tough. I trust Rhule to get those speedy freshman going soon.

You have to create the space to get him the ball and currently we can’t create the space. Not being able to vertically stretch the field not only hurts us in the run game, but also basically makes Kemp irrelevant and hinders some of the stuff we’d like to do with the TEs.

I'm disappointed how little Bonner gets used. Line him up at RB or WR more.
You may get your wish. It will not shock me to see our current FB room dotting the "I" once in a while given a 60 year old Jarvis Redwine has now been moved to fourth on the RB depth chart. I wonder where IM Hipp is these days?
