I was also thinking, how often is the assistant more qualified than the HC?
Kind of wondering if Rhule is feeling that pressure now. He's sitting in meetings with a guy who knows vastly more about offensive football than he does and knows that Holgs could run this team tomorrow and do a great job. He at least arguably has a better resume.

Absolutely.
His saving grace is holgs was pretty burnt out on being a HC toward the end at Houston.
So maybe all he really wants to be is an OC. But I imagine it would be a full control OC and he’d want his own staff under him.

I’m doubting holgs will be on staff next year. I don’t think Rhule will like his approach and if Rhule tries to telll holgs what to and not to say he’ll say fuck it and leave.
If he’s not on staff next year then wtf are we actually doing? Not that we haven’t already been asking that question for the past 20 years.

If we truly demoted our OC in season, brought in Holgs for the last 3 games, and then he’s not on staff next year it’s time to shut the doors.

He'll be OC, 90% certainty.

99% certainty that Rhule will retain him, 9% chance of alcohol-induced rager that forces him out.

Where are people getting this? Holgs’ tenure at Houston was a disaster.

Yeah idk in what world you can definitively say Holg is a better coach than Rhule. Offensively, absolutely, but overall there's no significant evidence that you could point to to say that.

That being said, if Rhule is the leader he wants to be and has been lauded to be, he's loving it. The best leaders aren't the guys trying to make themselves the smartest in the room (Frost), they're the ones surrounding themselves with the smartest minds.

I think Rhule had already realized he had to modify his approach and that's why he brought DH in

I'm not even sure DH wants to be a college HC anymore. I don't think he liked the shit that goes along with it in the current environment.

It’s strange when you pop into a thread and an entire narrative has been created that Holgorsen will be gone next year and Rhule is intimidated by him.

Silly season at tpb.
I thought Holgs is non-committal or won't comment about his future past this season. Maybe that's the smoke along with how direct Rhule seemed at his last press conference yesterday.

I think you're right too. An OC spot is perfect for him now.

I think that could be viewed as Holgorsen redirecting to keep focus on the team/upcoming game and off of him. Maybe viewing after the season as a more appropriate time to make that announcement and discuss it publicly.

If that’s the case, how that got spun into “it’s Rhule’s fault” is still nuts. Rhule said he wants him here next year.

Lots of reasons Holgorsen wouldn’t promise to be back in a presser. Many of them with $ in front of them.

He is the most qualified guy who just got fired by Houston and didn’t have anyone bite on him being a coordinator until week 10 of the following season, granted.
We can all think Dana is a brilliant offensive mind without taking the insane step to suggest he's anything more than a meh HC.

Would be insane if Rhule doesn't already know that he will be in Lincoln next year though
