USMNT

Soccer is a strange sport to me. I know it has a massive world wide following but I just can't figure out why. To me it lacks any real excitement outside of an occasional dramatic fake injury and the occasional score.
I get why people think it's boring, but to like it you have to be able to appreciate the "chances".

I can get into the build-ups & the drama of those moments, but the thing for me is that 95% of the action is utterly irrelevant to the outcome of the game.

(Real) football even if you don't score, each play affects field position. Soccer, you don't score & the goalie can instantly boot it most of the way across the field & the whole attack was mostly pointless.

I think it's mainly popular because the rules are easy enough to be understood by 4 year olds & poor people all over the world can easily play it, so it's ingrained early.

That is true that it's a different sport than another sport

I suppose it's like hockey in that way. I go to hockey now and again...mostly to just watch the fan and the fights.

Im sure a hard core soccer fan thinks the same about American football.

I'm not a big soccer fan but the World Cup and Euro Cup are great sporting events. It is an acquired taste for sure but a huge event on the big stage.
