Before you can assert that, you have to explain just how you are going to do that and remain within the rules of the Settlement. Hint; you can't.
For those who are curious about how grandfathering works, here is the NCAA guidance. The grandfathering discussion is in section C (see especially C11 and the following questions)The names of the grandfathered players had to be sent to the NCAA. They were supposed to be kids who otherwise (but for grandfathering) would not have been on the 105 roster. The NCAA sent lengthy guidance out on it in Q&A format.
The students that are grandfathered have the label Designated Student Athlete (DSA) in the guidance. Their names weren’t made public but the names were provided to every D1 member school.

So any player not receiving financial aid thats sports related doesnt count to the cap. So we just need scholarship players to portal out to bring new ones in. Additionally, if 1890 was paying the kid the university wasn't so they wouldn't count towards cap either. That's how I interpret it anyways? For those who are curious about how grandfathering works, here is the NCAA guidance. Thanks. This was helpful. So basically the 105 number does not include the grandfathered designated student athletes. Is that correct? Any idea how many we have on that list? For those who are curious about how grandfathering works, here is the NCAA guidance. To begin with the University and the AD and the football program can have ZERO input on a players decision to leave, The settlement enshrines that right for the player.
Making bad recruiting decisions is now a FATAL issue for football programs, because if the player doesn't want to leave you are stuck with him till he graduates. (Or they do something that violates the University's ethic code.)
We had 20 by my count last July 1. So, if those guys leave, it doesn't free up a spot on the rosterThanks. This was helpful. So basically the 105 number does not include the grandfathered designated student athletes. Is that correct? Any idea how many we have on that list?
Scholarship players can come off the roster, too. That creates a roster spot, but their scholarships still eat into the cap., Agree on 1890.So any player not receiving financial aid thats sports related doesnt count to the cap. if my current calculations I just did this morning are correct, we are at around 112 with 19 players I would easily classify as grandfathered. That number includes the 10 signees in the 112.We had 20 by my count last July 1. So, if those guys leave, it doesn't free up a spot on the roster
so Maverick Noonan would or would not free up a scholarship spot on the 105? I was not nearly as confused as I now am on all of this after reading this thread lolScholarship players can come off the roster, too. Scholarships don't really matter that much anymore. Just roster spots. We don't know if Noonan frees up a spot. He doesn't if he was a DSA on the list filed last July 1.so Maverick Noonan would or would not free up a scholarship spot on the 105?
