I climbed a big ole temple/pyramid structure in Burma that was somewhat like that. Scared the fucking beejesus out of me. Wasn't as bad going up but coming down was a shorts soiler. And the people over there are tiny with small feet so the stairs were too small for feet my size. I thought it would be wise to walk down facing out so I could lean against the temple and see where I was stepping. Walking or climbing down facing the temple you couldn't see the stairs as you were kissing stones. Once I started down it was virtually impossible to turn around as there was nothing to hold onto, and I almost died. Death by Fanny Pack. Back then we traveled with Fanny Packs for our cameras, snacks, water bottles, money & passports. Fucking thing was on my backside and got caught on one of the stairs, never thought of that hazard. Pushed me outwards and almost tumbled face first down over 50 feet of steep stone stairs. I was literally teetering on the edge waving my arms trying to get my balance back. Thought I was a goner. Would probably have bounced off the stairs once or twice before falling straight down to the ground. If it wasn't the scariest moment of my life it definitely ranks in Top 5 scariest moments of my life, and I've had multiple guns pointed at my head including an AK-47 aimed at my head through the car window in Burma on that same trip 2 days later.
