It's obvious to everyone that we will unfortunately lose Tony White this offseason to a HC opportunity. He's going to be considered the #1 DC in the country by year end (my prediction).

Selfishly I want him to go to a team in a different conference that doesn't play us. His next employer will undoubtedly be on this list (maybe not this one, but one of these at one point)

Here are the ones that stood out to me (RE: White)
10. PJ Fleck, Minnesota
3. Dave Aranda, Baylor
1. Billy Napier, Florida (they won't hire White, I know).

Baylor hiring White would be a BRILLIANT hire for them. I wonder if they'll be gun-shy going the DC route after Dave Aranda. They shouldn't be. Baylor would be a great fit w White's Texas roots. Rhule would obviously endorse it (Rhule says he'll only recommend programs with strong NIL). It would be good for us bc they're not in the B1G.

I think the rhule connection gets him to Baylor. Unless they don’t want to hire back to back d-coordinators.

I'm selfish, I hope there are only shitty spots open and White decides to return for another year. Unlikely, but possible.
I think it's unlikely. On my morning podcast runaround, a couple of the national guys actually proclaimed Tony White the #1 DC in the country.

He's going to be very much talked about by the end of the year if we are pushing on the CFP doorstep.

I think he'll 99% be gone as long as he can get a big program with good NIL/infrastructure support.

That would be a win for us.

My fear is that he does a Ryan Walters....which is, the B1G was so impressed with Walters, an intra-division school hired him as HC.

I kind of think that could happen with White. I think Minnesota would hire him. But I don't think Fleck will be gone (he won't be fired and he also won't leave).

The only way I could 100% turn on Tony is if Kirk finally goes to pasture and Cockeye hired him. Good thing they are a bunch of racist fucks and we really don't need to worry about that.

True. I would hate to have to cheer against him every year

Think there’s a chance he stays because we are going to be better next year and it will only raise his stock. But yes, he’s gone soon and well deserved.

The Florida job is obviously a good one, but god damn their schedule is something else, even in 2025 it’s bad

I also think they’d want to keep Phil Parker there if he isn’t leaving with Kirk & they’d go after an offensive coach.

The good thing is he is a good enough candidate that he doesn't have to take the first offer. He can afford to wait for the offer he wants, just hope that doesn't happen this offseason.

Keep in mind that this was Dean, but he feels pretty strongly that White will be back next year. No idea what his source is, but he says that White and his family are extremely comfortable and happy in Lincoln. He said that if he wanted to be a HC, he would have made the move last year with the options he had.

Wow I did not hear him say that. That's awesome.

He should come back in 2025 with the goal of winning a natty

Glad to hear he loves it here. Although IDK if there were any good jobs last year that he'd have seriously wanted, outside of UCLA, which he wasn't offered.

I think Dean shouldn't conflate want to with desperate to be. I think Rhule did the right thing for White in pushing him hard for UCLA and SDSU when they were opened and the AD did right by White essentially pricing him out of shitty HC spots.

Tone might be here next year but not because he isn't interested in being a head coach but because Rhule has laid out a path for him to go and get a top tier job from his DC spot. IMO

Also - I had been operating under the theory that we were only able to get a guy like John Butler bc Rhule was able to go "our DC is leaving after DEC 2024" and you'd be a candidate etc
