Here is what I think we need to focus on now that the season is over.
1: Retain Tony White. Give him a raise. We need him to keep him building this defense. Turd mentioned (along with Rhule) that they want Nebraska to be a defensive team. Tony will get a chance to be a head coach eventually but keeping him for '24 is key.
2: The right portal QB and a QB coach. Maybe hiring the coach gets you the player. Adjust Sattershitface's duties to OC/TE, move Martin back to his analyst role and hire a QB coach. I would also like to say and put any myth to bed.....Purdy showed he can't be the guy. His last 3 passes in our last 3 losses are all INTs. He was horrible in '22 and only looked good in '23 because Sims and HH were that bad. We need a real QB and big programs have QB coaches.
3: A small but effective portal philosophy. We may only take 4-5 guys. If we assume 1 is a QB. Then that leaves a handful for some key spots. My list is LT, WR, MLB and a sophomore/junior DL guy who will play in 24 but really be for '25. Spend the money on quality for those spots. Quality not quantity here.
4: Convince Gabe and Rahmir to move on then take the best big back JUCO guy you can find and the big back HS we have visiting in December. Let Emmett and Ives be the fast guys and pair them with a hammer.
5: Convince '25 QB Manske that we are the better choice over Cockeye. Ferentz probably won't be there by the time he would step on campus so we should be the choice and get him in the class early to kick '25s class into high gear.
6: Have the tough conversations with Hood, Tagaloa, Gunnerson and the others from the infirmary to clear them off the books. If they can't get off the trainer's table then they can't contribute on the field.
7: Find a top JUCO/HS kicker and have a competition in spring with Alvano for one scholarship and one spot on the team. Game of Thrones, you win or you die. Possibly the same with Buscini.
